Anora (with a side of Anora/Alistair), succession anonymous October 26 2011, 06:43:21 UTC
So Cailan was clearly shooting blanks, and Alistair's Tainted little swimmers aren't doing much better. But Tabris/Cousland and Anora herself are damn well not about to let the country fall apart over the succession a second time in the space of twenty years when Alistair goes off to his Calling.

So what do they do? Adopt, and try to pull a fast one on the Bannorn? Find a guy who looks enough like Alistair (cough*zevran*cough) and have a bastard? Do some kind of Wynne/Avernus magic test tube baby mojo? Declare an official heir in a non-Theirin family and damn anyone who says otherwise? And how does poor Alistair, who's kind of a romantic even when hardened, deal with all this cold calculating politics about his own potential children and a woman he might very well have come to love?

(Wardens other than Tabris or Cousland are fine, I just figure they're the ones most likely to care about the Ferelden succession).

Second this. :)
But I'd like to point out there's another guy, certain sexy ex-apostate (at least in DAO) who looks A LOT like Alistair... yes, I mean Anders. ;)

Haha, but his swimmers are Tainted too. Though I suppose one could go a bit AU...

(Oh, and OP should add, bonus points for f!Warden with no romantic ties to Alistair.)

yes, but fresher.
Alistair could father the child approx one 1,5 years after his Joining (in Dark Ritual), right? With Anders a Warden just a month or two it shouldn't be a problem. ;o)

I don't know that this is what you're looking for, but it's what popped into my head. I hope it'll do until someone else can do this prompt justice. Assume f!Cousland, left vague because I don't need a third Cousland populating my head.

When Queen Anora’s pregnancy was announced to the court, the formal audience dissolved into a joyous reception full of excitement and congratulations. King Alistair grew progressively more withdrawn and sarcastic as the evening wore on until his Chancellor, on the pretense of important business, steered him forcefully from the room.

“What is the matter with you?” she asked once a heavy wooden door separated them from any prying ears. “Are you trying to offend the nobility? All you need to do tonight is accept congratulations and look proud. That can’t be too hard.”

“It would be a lot easier if the child was mine!”

Her voice turned steely. “She’s the queen; you’re the king. It is yours ( ... )

Ooh, this is very much what I was looking for! And oh, poor wistful Cousland and sulky confused Alistair and oh, Oren, I'm unreasonably sad about him still, I can't even imagine how she feels. And I like how little hints of Anora slip through even though she's not here, the way Cousland refers to the three of them as a unit and how this was obviously a plan Alistair was told about rather than involved in.

Thank you authanon!

Political Pregnancy A!a approves of you giving Alistair something a bit sweeter than she did.

(Ignore the anon-fail due to distraction from my toddler...)
