Ella turned her head to the side to look up at Howe through tangled, unwashed hair. "Your kindness knows no bounds," she spat. She could now make out his face a little in the shadows as her eyes adjusted to the light levels. She saw the man she'd just...serviced; she winced at the thought and nearly vomited again, take a jug and pour some water into a small wooden mug, walk over and hand it to her. She took it gratefully, in too much mental turmoil to think straight. She gulped it back making herself cough again at the sudden chill in her throat. She dropped the cup to the floor not noticing the man pick it up and take it back to Howe with a gaunt look in his eye. She sat back hugging her knees and shivered. The idea of defiance, pride or dignity seemed so far away, like something that belonged to another life, another Ella that wasn't this one.

She could see Alistair's foot from the corner of her eye, shame swept over her as she turned her head away from him completely and closed her eyes, pretending the cold floor beneath her was herself as a child sitting in the snow with a cross Nan yelling at her for making her dress wet. She laughed at herself when she realised she was missing her mabari and wondered if she was loosing her grip. How many days had she been subjected to complete darkness before this? She couldn't be sure.

Pulling the tattered threads of her mind that threatened to unravel her, she steeled herself, concentrating on Alistair. She could feel him there, not in the same way she could sense a darkspawn, but she knew he was there all the same. She wished she could sense what he felt. Yet she feared it too. Alistair was the closest friend she could ask for, though even he could be judgemental at times. Ella knew he wouldn't, not for this, but doubt gnawed at her.

Her respite was all to brief. She hoped more than believed, that Howe would be done with her. She knew it was only a matter of time before he forced his 'pet' on to her.

Howe stood up, for the first time coming nearer to the light so Ella could fully see his face.

He smiled broadly at her. "Did I say how delightful it is to see you again. Especially so much of you."

Ella drew her legs closer to herself.

Howe licked his lips. "I've finally decided how I'd like to see you."

Ella glared at him. "Can we move on to the part where you just kill me?"

Howe laughed loudly. "Kill you? No. It's much more fun this way. I intend to keep you alive for a time. I'm just going to break you first."

The pit of Ella's gut knotted, but, if she was not going to die yet there was always hope of escape. She and Alistair wouldn't be helpless forever. The others would notice their overlong absence soon too.

She heard Alistair growl under his breath and speak. "You'll pay for this."

"Ah yes, the bastard. I've not forgotten about you either." Howe paced slowly back to his seat, settled comfortable and indicated to the guard who promptly prodded his sword gently at Alistair's neck, making him tilt his head back in an effort to alleviate the discomfort. "She thinks I'm going to make this easier on her by letting my pet take her."

Ella mentally recoiled at the thought that he might just let the guards at her. "But to make it interesting, you're going to do it." The words seared through her thoughts like a branding iron. She heard Alistair protest.

"Wait, what? No....that's just...No! I'm not..." His protests were cut short by a painful yelp as the guard swiftly pulled a dagger, running it along his shoulder.

"I can keep this up all night. Can you?" Howe's voice held more promise than threat. "How much blood loss does it take to weaken a Grey Warden? Shall we find out?"

Ella turned to look at Alistair. "Just do it," she snarled hiding her humiliation as best as possible. She gave a small sigh of relief as Alistair seemed to resign himself and moved toward her wordlessly.

They both sat there, Ella almost laughed at the absurdity of the situation, her mind focusing on anything at all rather than the reality of their current situation. She didn't want to imagine how Alistair was feeling. She got the impression he'd not expected his first time to go like this.

"You will not be gentle, Alistair. You are raping this woman." Howe sounded smug.

Ella saw Alistair pale at Howe's words. She thought she'd break when Alistair's eyes met hers, he looked like he was pleading with her to not make him do this.

If Howe picked up on Alistair's look or if just cosmic timing, Ella knew not. "If you wish, I can just kill her instead if torturing you is not enough incentive. I must say, I find watching you both try so hard not to let the other get hurt while so helpless is as delightful as I'd hoped."

"You talk to much, Howe." Alistair growled. "You need to die more."

Howe nodded. "All in good time, but not before you do." He watched his guards close in around the two wardens, swords ready but giving them enough space. Men hand chosen for their discretion about their master's 'tastes'. "You will take her now."

Ella stayed sat, waiting for Alistair to move, worried that he seemed frozen to the spot, hesitant to act.

"If you don't push her to the floor and take her, I will have one of my men do it. With a sword." Howe shifted impatiently. "Now."

Alistair tentatively moved forward towards Ella.

"No. You will not be soft on her. If I see an act of compassion, I will kill her."

Ella saw the movement of Alistair's adam's apple as he swallowed and took a deep breath. He moved fast, faster than she expected and felt winded as she found herself shoved to the hard floor, stone digging into her back and Alistair's weight pressed down on her. She suddenly realised as she noticed her arms pinned to the floor above her head by one of Alistair's hands around her wrist, just how small and vulnerable she was. She turned her head away from him staring blankly at the bare wall trying to drown out the words Howe was saying, the only thing she made out was the hint of arousal in the tone. She stayed staring as Alistair shoved her legs apart with a knee, not letting herself give him any help. Not just to save him, or herself. She didn't want to, she didn't want this. Not with anyone but certainly not with Alistair.

She bit her lip as he entered her, she wasn't ready for him and he wasn't hard enough to make it and easy passage. She tried to remain as passive as possible but couldn't help a small sharp intake of breath through gritted teeth as he inexpertly pushed into her. He grew harder and pushed deeper with each thrust. Ella felt something warm and damp against her cheek and Alistair's voice soft, yet with an edge of desperation to it, repeating almost like a chant, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Ella felt at a loss, she had no idea how to comfort him, she couldn't comfort herself. She was growing wetter but not soon enough to bring much relief to the initial soreness. Even if Alistair had better knowledge of how to best enter a woman, he'd hardly have been allowed to. Even through this, she didn't and couldn't blame him for his inexperience, she refused to even if she could feel the beginnings of irrational resentment tugging at the corners of her emotions.

She subtly tried to rub her foot against his ankle in some vain attempt at reassurance, not much but the best she could do. She didn't know if he understood. She felt his weight lifting from her as Alistair raised himself, bringing his free hand lower down her body. She didn't have much time to wonder if she'd missed Howe's latest instruction as Alistair's finger started to rub at the small nub of her clit. Involuntarily raising her hips to meet his thrusts and exploring finger, she choked back a gasp as arousal spread through her despite her attempts to fight it.

Tears formed at the corners of her eyes, which she blinked away as best she could. Alistair was still not looking directly at her, but she swore in that moment she would not let him see her cry. Desperate to concentrate on something other that feeling building up with her, she tried pressing her skinned leg to the floor, but couldn't hit the spot. Alistair's thrusts grew faster and stronger making it impossible to ignore her body's unwilling reaction. A cry escaped her lips as her back arched under his body as she shuddered in climax, the pulsing of her orgasm was enough to send Alistair over the edge. The deep throated moan and the warmth within her giving her a sense of relief that was now over.

Alistair shifted.

"No, no no. You stay there until I leave the room. You must excuse me, I have business to attend to. But my appreciation for being so very entertaining."

Ella closed her eyes. Howe obviously not content with everything he's put them through added insult to injury making the two wardens remained coupled together until all rank and file had left the room.

Just before the door slammed shut she heard Howe address a guard. "Get them some blankets. It will do no good to have them die of cold overnight. I think I've found some new favourites."

Blankets were unceremoniously dumped on them and the door closed and locked.

Alistair seemed reluctant to move. Ella understood. It was almost like if they stayed where they were, they wouldn't have to look at each other, not have to address what just happened. She also couldn't miss that he was shaking. The hand holding her withdrew slowly, awkwardly. Ella brought it down wiggling her fingers to regain some blood. She could still feel Alistair inside her, limp and uncomfortable. She eased herself away trying to ignore the feeling of dampness running between her buttocks.

Alistair took the moment to compose himself and almost jumped away. Ella placed a hand on him. "It's okay. You didn't hurt me," she lied.

"I'm sorry, I would.."

She hushed him. Her grip on her calmness was tenuous at best, if she left Alistair fall into self blame and loathing she worried she might not hold it together herself. She needed him to be strong for her sake.

She wrapped a blanket around herself and handed him the other one which he tore a strip from and handed to her.

"To clean yourself wi... with." He looked away, his expression full of shame.

She attempted a weak smile. 'We'll need it to see to that shoulder of yours, its worse than..."

"How can you still be so calm, so forgiving?" His voice raised as he cut her off, but dropping to a whisper.

She dabbed carefully at the cut on his shoulder. Ineffectual but she needed to concentrate on something. There was little light left as the candles burned low and if she had ever been prepared to admit it to herself, a small part of her felt small satisfaction at seeing Alistair wince as she wiped the now drying blood.

She cracked, exhaustion finally letting her slim hold on her emotions slip. "What makes you think I'll ever forgive you?" The words were out before she could stop them.

Alistair pulled away from her, hurt and sad looking, yet understanding.

"I'm sorry." Ella realised her words could damage their friendship beyond the point of no return. "I spoke in haste and frustration. It's not directed at you."

Alistair nodded in understanding, though she could see the hints of doubt in his eyes. "Did I hurt you badly? Don't lie to me, Ella"

"Nothing that can't be fixed in time."

"I'm sorry." The words seemed so inadequate as to almost ring hollow to Alistair's ears. How could he ever atone for this? Even if it did keep her alive - for now.

They sat near each other in silence yet not being able to look each other in the eye. Close enough to take comfort in not being alone, but far enough to individually allow them space to either shut out or come to terms as best as possible with what had happened.

To present time Ella could not really tell the events of her escape, it was pretty much a blur at the time and she'd done her best to block it out ever since. As she watched the blood that pooled beneath Howe's body, she smiled. She felt Alistair place a hand on her shoulder. "It's done. We better move, we can celebrate later."

She swiftly kissed him on the cheek in thanks. She knew she couldn't have got this far without him. They were still close, as close as any friends could be. But the experience had left their friendship, much like themselves, irreversibly tainted.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's the first time I've ever written non-con so I was nervous as hell I'd completely fluff it up.
