Did I just hear.... bagpipes?

Feb 25, 2009 15:30

How cool is it to hear bagpipes in one of the practice rooms? And no, not human bagpipes, which my roommate can do quite well (not to mention her oboe-trio-equals-bagpipes, which is awesome as well).

Anyway, for anyone in town who is interested, Margaret (the other harp/art major) and I will be playing a very cool duet on next Wednesday's "collage concert" at 7:30 (or 7:00?), which is basically just a series of short pieces that go straight from one to the next, without break for applause. All of the pieces are four minutes or less, so you don't have to worry about being bored! We will also be playing it on the harp recital in the spring, so you can always hear it then if you're in town.

EDIT: Um, some of the music students are being real assholes. Some stupid horn bitch was talking really loudly about how bagpipes don't belong in Wisconsin or in a music school, and her stupid vocalist friend was agreeing with her every word. After maybe 2 minutes of bagpiping, one of the violin majors comes down in a huff to the key desk and demands her to go tell him to leave. Granted, he didn't have a key for the practice room he was playing in (which is a little weird, meaning that he went around and tried the doors to find a practice room that someone forgot to lock) but it was an example of some rather unfortunate elitism.
