I was cleaning out my old planner notebook to transfer everything to the new one, and I found an old sheet of paper tucked in the pages with comments/conversation scrawled between Sam and myself. These were from the baptism service of my godchild Emma, where the priest or minister or whatever he was called was an insane bible thumper. I think everyone was locked in an uncomfortable silence during his lecturing, though it was tough for Sam and I to keep from laughing, particularly because we were sitting right in front of our rather strict grandparents.
My favorite comments from the page:
"how many more times can he say 'circumcision??"
"umm, this is kind of the basis of scary fundamentalism...and... monkey trials......."
"[on the Scopes monkey trials] - in school they showed us articles of people saying -- and I quote: "I don't want my neighbors to think that I came from no monkey."
"hey look, I'm saved for the week. *dusts off hands* well, now that that's out of the way..."
"He [the minister] could totally use those belt cords as nunchucks" ---"Are you trying to get me kicked out?!"
There's a little illustration to go with that last one, maybe I'll scan it and post it later. XD
