It's approved!!

I just got my installation approved by the building manager - and I set up a test segment this morning and am very pleased with how it turned out! This is exactly what I had pictured - and it turns out that the different size tiles do produce different pitches, and they make a dull sort of clinking sound like those bamboo chime things.

Pardon the blurriness of the pictures - I was taking them quickly. Once it's fully installed I'll take better ones.

(it's going to be on the central stair railing, but I put it on the side for the test. My music history professor saw it and thought it looked pretty cool, so that was fun)

Also, I loaded a glaze kiln this morning - the first one this semester, and it's mostly my things, including my two behemoth squishy blob things. I'm going to unload them tomorrow morning and flood your friends page with more pictures, good or bad. That's the stressful (yet liberating) part of ceramics - no matter how much you plan the glazes, it could turn out very different from what you expect. That's tough for me, but it's a good experience in letting go and just saying "it's out of my hands, it's going to do what it's going to do, and I'll just be surprised."

But it could be bad.... like last week, the ceramics II class was firing a bunch of bowls and one of the shelves broke, which I've never seen before. Two shelves of bowls either broke or adhered to each other where their glazes touched. Frightening.

To do before this whirlwind of a semester is over:
[_] Unload glaze kiln, load bisque kiln of tiles, cone 04, fill baby kiln with tiles, fire cone 2 (the cones are different firing temperatures, the cone 2 is hotter and makes a relatively higher pitched sound)
[_] coil wire for the fixture rings for installation project - clip into individual rings
[_] Finish press molding tiles for final project - large ones are finished, do 28 little ones
[_] 2 page music history assignment
[_] 5 page paper for art 208
[_] 10 page research paper for Greek sculpture
[_] contemporary chamber ensemble concert, Tues 22 7:30 - small chamber piece that sounds pretty cool
[_] Install installation piece - mesh supports Tues night, then hang tiles Wed night
[_] Installation critique, Thurs, take down Fri and Sat night
[_] Music history quiz
[_] April 30 - art thingy
[_] Harp recital - May 2nd 5:30
[_] ALSO May 2nd: Chamber orchestra concert - Tzigane ... crazy harp part
[_] May 3 - woodfiring shift (keeping the fire going) 6 - 1am
[_] art 208 test
[_] Music History final
[_] Greek Sculpture final
[_] Play a concert for Beloit university orchestra - 2 pieces
[_] Play a concert for Verona highschool - one piece
[_] Jury/proficiency exam - Gitana and Bach (the Handel concerto was too long and Margaret was playing the Debussy, so we didn't want a repeat. Next jury.
