I'm very glad that I decided to do the Four Seasons gig. The group is fun but very professional - everyone came to the first rehearsal on Sunday really well prepared, and it sounded just like the cd! The first chair wind player is actually the professor of saxophone here at UW (he was at my entrance audition, and is very cool) and he takes delight in playing multiple instruments, which is fitting since the first book calls for soprano sax (he has one of those teeny little curved ones x) hehe) Bb clarinet, Eb clarinet, flute, piccolo and alto sax - which he has all lined up in front of him on a cool stand.
One of my music ed major friends took the saxophone funamentals instrument course that he teaches, and he apparently had an entire set of saxophones and clarinets!! Even down to a super small Bb-clarinet-that-is-one-octave-above-a-regular-one-and-is-even-tinier-than-the-itty-bitty-Eb-clarinet! I had no idea they even made those. x) x) He is really chill about being a 'jack of all trades,' which is a refreshing attitude in the music business, at least it was a relief for me to hear (since I haven't spent my life dedicated to one instrument and so have not developed the virtuosity that I probably should have to be a performance major...). I like playing many things.
The rehearsal last night was from 7-10, but it felt like it went by so much faster. All of a sudden we're done with the second act, and going back to touch up a few cuts and then it was time to go! Arrgh and I found out that last year they did SWEENEY TODD D: D: so I just missed it. poo. As consolation, I think they did the abbreviated stage version where the pit is up on stage and they don't use a harp (which is insane, because there's such a cool harp part through the entire thing). Oh well.
