Conversations with a model

It's always kind of unusual to meet one of the models that come in for life drawing - outside of that context. As my friend Mandy put it: "I didn't recognize them with their clothes on..." I was standing at the bus stop, and all of a sudden this guy says "are you in drawing class?" I turn around and it's the model that we were just sketching for 2 1/2 hours. He seems to be a regular, since I remember seeing lots of drawings of him when past classes would post their work. We talked for a while, and he said his only kind of awkward experience was when a teacher wanted to show the contour of the body, and asked if she could draw some charcoal lines on his skin (like one on each limb to show the shape and volume) for the students to see. He didn't mind - only when they were through, he found that the charcoal wouldn't wash off because he had used lotion on his skin and it had absorbed the mark. So the lines took  a few weeks to fade...

We've been doing a few different drawing techniques that is really starting to loosen up my drawing style, for better or for worse. I like the class very much so far - though it does get quite exhausting standing and constantly working with one or the other arm upraised for 2 1/2 hours.

Back to working on my greek and music papers.....

EDIT: Music paper done (and longer than necessary, that's a first... at least in college....
