My mini art show thing is a little blah. Actually it's all kinds of blah. I like most of the things I did as an idea, but my finished products on the walls feel like a bunch of studies for some different project, not like fully formed works. My sculpture prof came with his wife (also a phenomenal artist) and a friend of theirs, a couple grad students (Ginger came early and helped set up the food b/c she's very cool) and some other art folks, and one dude off the street who saw the banner on the website. Dad and I gave most of the people who came tours of the shop area, which I think they thought was pretty neat, but I was a little embarrassed that all I had to show them for my own work was the crap that I had.
I feel like it was a good experience to put together a venue like this and get the practice in having everything ready to hang when you bring it in (mine wasn't) and having labels all set with the artist statement (I didn't) and having your food goodies for the reception prepared in advance (mine weren't). Good learning experience. I'm treating this as my trial run show, and hopefully have better work if Dad lets me do this again sometime... which is a little dicey, since this one was kind of bleh.
