My mom arrived on Tuesday evening. Mark and I drove down to London to get her from Heathrow. By the time we got home, it was just time for bed anyways. The next day, I brought my mom to the Lincoln Cathedral & Castle. We saw the 2,000 year old Roman well. We also walked down Steep Hill and went in all the shops, and straight into town. That night we ate at a place called the Beef Eater and my mom really really enjoyed that restaurant!
On Thursday, we headed into London via a train. When we got to London, we took the tube to our hotel. The hotel was amazing! We had a great river view and it was air conditioned and spacious and just very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and so were the pillows. I always have a hard time sleeping in hotels, but not this one!!! I slept like a baby and I nearly want to call them and ask them what type of blanket & pillows that was lol! From the hotel, we went to Buckingham Palace. We walked through Green park to get there. We saw the London Eye from there in the distance. After Buckingham Palace, we decided to go to the real London Bridge. Everyone always mistakes the Tower Bridge for London Bridge. London Bridge is really nothing special, but we had to just to say we did! After that, we explored Borough Market for some street food. We just caught the very end of it, so the food was tasty but a bit cold. We ate it though, as we were starving and tired from all the walking we did.
When we got back to the hotel, we decided to see Wicked!!! The play I've been wanting to see for years! We went to the Apollo Victoria Theatre. When you walked in the lobby, everything was GREEEEEEN! Everyone wearing green, green lights, banners, carpets, and merchandise! It was sooooo cool. The stage was absolutely brilliant, with a huuuuge dragon hanging above. The play was just outstanding. The actress sang Defying Gravity probably even better than the original. She belted those notes out so high and perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the play together!! After the play, we went back to the hotel for sleep.
The next day, we woke up and had some Hotel Breakfast. After, we headed to Westminster Abbey. I was dying to go there for a long time because Mary Queen of Scots tomb is there. It was absolutely amazing in there, the architecture and history was just astounding. There were so many tombs besides my queen, there was Elizabeth the 1st and Henry the IV, and King Richard the II, and Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen, and just sooooo many Kings and Queens and authors, and poets, and even memorials to people like Shakespeare. It was just an incredible experience.
We couldn't see Big Ben. He was under construction, and will be for the next few years.
After that, we headed to Camden market. We had some food at a pub, looked around at all the street stalls, and I GOT MY HARRY POTTER TATTOOOOOO! That was excited. It didn't hurt hardly at all, and no pain what so ever after and still no pain.
After Camden market, we went to Harrods. We went to Pee really, we were too tired to shop in there and it just wasn't very interesting.
That night we ate at a super delicious Portuguese restaurant. We were too tired to carry on, after all the tube rides and walking around, so we went back to the hotel and fell straight asleep.
Saturday morning, we hit the Tower of London and saw the crown jewels, the torture tower, some artifacts, and saw a good view of the Tower Bridge. Then we headed back to Kings Cross, had some lunch at an Italian restaurant, and headed back to Lincoln.
Back in Lincoln, Mark, Matthew, mom, and I all had our dinner at the Harvester on the Brayford pool. (A river in Lincoln.)
The next day, we had a nice early start and headed to Nottingham. My mom enjoyed the shopping mall and the outdoor shopping, and Mark enjoyed his Taco Bell! After, we headed to the Nottingham Castle. Mom didn't really want to go in, so we just took pictures from outside the entrance, the grounds, the walls, and the Robin Hood statue. We made our way down the hill to the Oldest Pub in England. After that, we drove to Sherwood Forest where we saw the Great Oak. The oak tree is 1,150 years old and it was once a meeting point for Robin Hood and his Merrie Men, (yes spelled Merrie lol). We then went home.
The next day was mostly chilling. We took the Brayford Belle boat cruise in Lincoln. It's really cool to learn some of the history behind Lincoln and just a nice relaxing river ride. That evening, we did some last minute shopping. My mom bought me some clothes =) and a bathing suit that i really needed!
Today we woke up at 3:30 am and left the house by 4:30, got her to the airport by 7:30. We hung around for about an hour then I said goodbye to her =(. we left at 8:30 and got back to Lincoln by 11:30
That was my trip to London! & My week with my mom!
