Speaking of banners, I need as many as you can send me. I'm almost out of new ones.

I feel a bit odd-woman-out when it comes to Masked Empire. Everyone I know who's read it has gone pretty much out of their minds with enthusiasm for it, but I'm about halfway through and I'm mostly...meh? I don't feel connected to any of the characters, and the writing, while not terrible, isn't particularly engaging and feels downright clunky at times. [Plot spoilers]The plot is at least mildly intriguing in that I assume it's providing background for the events of Inquisition. I don't give a fig about Orlesian politics, but given that at least a good chunk of Inquisition is apparently going to take place there, I'm hoping that reading this book will provide a little more context and flavor to the game itself. What I'm really interested in, though, are all the stirrings of elven rebellions. I really hope that means that the elves and their plight might actually get some decent screentime in Inquisition, since I've always been irritated that BioWare has largely ignored them in favor of focusing on the mage/templar conflict.

Have to admit I'd prefer discussions about it go in the read-along, since that's what it's there for, but. :3

Two quick notes and links. From PC gamer, an interesting note about the Warden in Awakening

PC Gamer: There are choices in the past. You mentioned one earlier, the state of the warden, who can be dead, and obviously something that has come up with fans quite a bit, in Awakening-the zombie warden scenario. Is that something you've addressed in Inquisition?

Mark Darrah: Yes. There’s a couple, the zombie warden was just a stupid decision on our part I’d say. We should have just not let you. We decided, if you want to play awakening we should let you use your warden. Well what if they’re dead? We’ll let you bring them back to life. We should just not have that.

[Romance spoiler, mechanics, no characters mentioned]From here

"The romances are more complex both in type of romances going forward and how you go through that romance," Lee explained to us. "The different types of sexual orientation of the different kinds of characters around you is also more complex than in previous games. I think there's going to be a lot more realistic... realistic... you know what I mean -- anyway, more

David Gaider "On Concerns Regarding DAI Romances"

'I understand the concern about possibly ending up with the “short end of the stick”, but I’m not sure where the DA team has yet given the impression that will be so. I’m not going to tell you your concerns don’t have validity-I’m actually quite familiar with how it feels to have my interests treated as a secondary concern when it comes to popular entertainment-but I’m hoping that concern need not equate with panic at this point. We’ve got a lot of time yet to discuss this.

Personally, I’d rather the conversation didn’t start with a discussion of what is “realistic”. That’s not a bar the DA team uses to judge any of our content-not in a fantasy game. There’s an argument that can be made about internal plausibility within the setting, but the realism Cam was trying to talk about in that interview was with regards to character depictions and the variety of viewpoints that can be touched on depending on the approach. I hope that’s clear. If not, it’s something we’ll certainly be ( ... )
