The real question - even having read the book before - why can Cole hear the call of the old gods?

That is a fine, fine question, and part of why I captured that in the synopses because bwah?

It does imply certain things about the nature of the Old Gods and the darkspawn, but it involves stuff that gets revealed later in the book!

Hey, Cole didn't butcher a random person he found. Time for forgive him for the many, many other people he murdered.

I don't like Cole. Can you tell?

Yeah, I don't like Anders, but I understand how his twisted logic works, and it came from a seed with a genuine cause. Cole? "They see me" Yeah ... backing away now.

Anders would probably have been more likeable if he was less preachy about the issue. I mean I don't agree with Fenris either, but atleast he knows when to draw the line with complaining about it. (Come to think of it, I didn't really agree with Merrill or Isabela either, damn the two best characters in the game not being romanceable.)
