The following is navel-gazing, feel free to ignore.
I didn't get any feedback on the Ronon fic. This is, of course, because I normally only get feedback by crossposting to every community that will have me like a little feedback ho, which I didn't do. But considering that the damn thing is basically a gen Ronon character study with pre-slash Sheppard/McKay, except for the part where Ronon and John have really explicit sex that isn't really slash at all... It's got a bit of a square-peg-round-hole problem. Hell, if somebody else posted a weird mutant fic-baby like that, *I* wouldn't read it.
There is so much I want to say about the Daniel amnesia fic, and the crazy amount of revision and rewriting and outlining I've done for it. I started out by writing 1000 words of "what do you mean we weren't sleeping together before? Of course we were, it's the only thing that makes sense!" porn, then realized it was such a bigger story than that, and scrapped 500 words and instead wrote 5000 words about Daniel coming back into his life in fits and starts. And then I looked at it just now and realized it's so much a better story than that, so I scrapped 2000 words and instead outlined the story that's about being on the outside of your life looking in, and finding your way back inside, and realizing when you have to stop being afraid to say "this is it, I'm home." I haven't done so much serious revision of anything since my senior thesis. I'm thinking about things like structure and thematic consistency and, God help me, integrating style and structure and theme. I forgot how good it feels to have your brain buzz like this. It's like a high. It'll take me a long time to finish this, but I'm happy.
