SGA SQUEEEE!

Michael Shanks did a one-episode spot on Eureka (which is a cute show with great potential that actually SUCKS as SF, much to my great sadness). We hear his voice before we see him, and JESUS, his voice just kind of goes straight to the sex centers of my brain. (Which is good, because his dialog was idiotic. As so much of that show is. GAH, ( Read more... )

Hmm. You know, I never watched CSI: Miami because detective/procedural shows pretty much bored me to tears by the time it started, and I thought it was easily the worst of the franchise. If I were Shanks acting with David Caruso, my problem wouldn't be that he was more popular than me, it would be that he's... *David Caruso.* Uh, no offense intended.

THAT SAID, if he is that kind of prima donna? That really sucks. It's always much nicer to hear that an actor you love is professional and a genuinely good guy and a joy to work with, you know? (One of the benefits of being a fan of Jensen Ackles, there) If only because that means he'll work on fewer projects with really good people.

Yeah, big Beneath the Surface vibe. Sounding a bit like Daniel is unavoidable, between some of the diction they gave him and some of the subject matter (the little speil about vanished civilizations), but I have to admit that when he said "the age old struggle between man and god" there was something about his inflection- and possibly also the eyebrows- that made me physically jump with surprise when the show cut back to Nathan instead of Jack.

And yeah, he sounded like he was struggling a bit to not sound more like Daniel- but then again, an actor doesn't have to be fantastically skilled or versatile for him to be hardwired straight to the sex centers of my brain.

I should have said there that it was Caruso who has acting like a Prima Donna not Shanks (who apparently was the total professional as we would expect). Shanks is wayyy to good an actor not to do that (and Caruso sounds a bit like a twit IMHO).

CSI Miami used to actually be very interesting with some clever stuff to learn (e.g. I got all the knowledge I have about radiation from one episode and learnt about wireless internet access through another) and some interesting characterisations. Rory Cochrane was great until he left for example ... They had a great writer who wrote strong women characters and they covered interesting stuff like racism, weather patterns and ballistics. Then they decided to slide into soap opera and that was that ...

I am *so* glad to hear that, you know? You really do *want* these guys you love to be professional and likable, and that's the first negative thing I'd heard about Shanks... so I'm glad I didn't hear it after all :) (And I'd always heard Caruso is a twit too)

Yeah, it wasn't really the show's fault, I just get unbelievably bored with procedurals after two seasons- I love the first two seasons of the original CSI, and then I'm all "okay, that was fun, NEXT!"

All the CSIs were good for about the first two seasons ... well maybe not CSI:NY (which I still prefer above all of them) that went off after only one. It was beautifully dark and with big city problems and cynical characters (it even had Jonas in one episode!)... and then the rebuilt the set and cheered everyone up. I went WTF??

p.s. Have you seen Shanks in Andromeda. That is very fun stuff and its so touching (and funny) to see him at one point looking adoringly at his new wife when in fact he should be glaring at her.

He was in the first season right at the end (episode 20 'Star Crossed') and the one which he did when he was on break from SG1 and had just got married was season three episode 21 'Day of Judgement Day of Wrath'.
