I hate that company

The amusing (by which I mean infuriating) coda to the firing by Kaplan was that I was told not to contact any of my students again under any circumstances. I was told that they were already reassigned- this was on a Friday, and the May test is in only two weeks. All three of those students had three more lessons before the test, and I know that the office is swamped- there’s simply no-one still taking students. In addition, two of the students were way out in Woodinville- I took them in the first place because we had NO ONE who would drive out there. So I figured that the office had to throw hundreds of bonus points to reassign them, when they could instead have just waited two weeks to fire me, but oh well.

However, when I don’t show up for lessons on Friday or Saturday, those two students call me in a panic. I have to explain to them that I was fired and strictly told not to contact them, and that I was told they were already reassigned. I advised them to call the office on Monday and insist on being reassigned right away. One of those two was in Seattle, so they’ll probably manage it. But the one out in Woodinville called the office on Monday twice and got put off, and by Wednesday still hadn’t heard from anyone- and when he called the office again Wednesday, they put him off again. In the end, he had to pay me privately for the last three lessons. To top it off, by the May test, he STILL hadn’t heard from a Kaplan tutor.

They simply completely abandoned him and never bothered to reassign at all. My other Woodinville student, from what I can tell, never got reassigned either. The whole thing was a complete fiasco that made them look incredibly unreliable and unprofessional, and frankly the whole thing was embarrassing to me and to them. The incompetence of telling me not to contact the students again when they had not and COULD not reassign them- from those student’s perspective, it’s like I and the whole company dropped off the face of the earth. I’m so mad for those students I could kill something. The customer service at that company is abominable; the level of competence at the office is lousy… how are these people so nationally prominent?
