Sunday Spotlight: Taming the Preacher's Daughter

Mar 08, 2015 14:52

Danielle Logan is in the spotlight today with her new book, Taming the Preacher’s Daughter. I remember hearing growing up that preacher’s kids were always the worst. The heroine in this book, Savi, is trying her best to live up to that reputation - until she finally meets her match.

Savi wanted to be everything she wasn’t. Tired of being the perfect preacher’s daughter, she wants to step out of her father’s shadow.

Deciding to go against everything she has been taught and wanting her first summer back from college to be a wild one, she begins to party and she sets her sights on the local lifeguard Eric.

Eric has always had a place in Savi’s heart, secretly she has always wanted to be with him.

After finding out that Eric attends her father’s church and realizing what her father’s church really practices, Savi goes on a downward spiral. Can love conquer her fears?

Excerpt

Eric knew that he had to put his foot down; he knew that he had to be more assertive with Savi. She was being reckless with her life. He knew she was going down a deep and ugly path, and he loved her too much to let her do this to herself. He had never wanted to be with anyone more than he found himself wanting to be with her, but he didn’t care for the decisions she was making. She was rebelling more and more every day. He needed to stop her before it was too late.

He had decided that he was no longer going to take no as an answer. The church was important to him, as were the church’s beliefs. He needed to tell Savi how he truly felt. He arranged to meet her at The Beach Shack on his lunch break.

“Table for one?” the waitress asked, gazing at Eric.

“No, I will be meeting my girlfriend here shortly. There she is now,” he said, with a smile in Savi’s direction.

“Hello, beautiful,” he whispered, leaning forward to kiss her on the cheek.

Savi gave him a shy smile and blushed. The waitress seated them in the outside dining area, so they could enjoy the sun.

“How’s the beach today, anything exciting?”

Savi always tried to keep the conversation light and meaningless, and he usually obliged her, but that was going to stop. If this was going to go any further, there were things that needed to be said. “Not really, which, I guess, is a good thing. Savannah, I really don’t want small talk. There is something I need to tell you.”

Eric could see the fear in her eyes. She looked distressed and nervous. Eric didn’t want to scare her; he just wanted to let her know his true feelings. She needed to know what his intentions were.

Eric moved from sitting across from her, to sitting beside her. He held her hand as he told her how he felt about her new lifestyle. He mentioned that he didn’t like her partying and staying out all night and that he was worried for her safety. He was careful when speaking to Savi; he made sure to do it in the most loving and caring way. He expressed to her how he truly believed that God was important to him and his future. He mentioned that one day when he was married, he would want to be married in her father’s church; he would want to raise his future children in that church.

“I believe God brought us together for a reason, Savi. I have prayed every day for an answer. I know that this is right for me. I need you to stand by me as I have stood by you.” Eric was confident that he had expressed himself well enough that she would come around to his way of thinking. He knew their relationship meant as much to her as it did to him.

“I can’t,” was all Savi could manage to say.

Eric was floored, watching as she walked out of the restaurant once again. He had no idea what their future would hold. It was a total blow to him that she would walk away from him. He had not seen that coming, truly believing that what they had, had been stronger than that.
