I finished Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I liked it. It was selection of quirky little stories, full of symbolism, and insights into the human psyche. Delicious food for thought (if you've a fancy for psychology) and very cleanly written, in my opinion, certainly the man likes his dashes and interjections but it was still very clean, simple, elegant without excess or decadent vocabulary. I didn't care for the story Josephine of The Mouse People but I was impressed by his observations just the same.
Anyway I started A Clockwork Orange, I love the colorful slang but it makes it hard thing to read till you've felt the words in your mouth and can make the sounds, and until they've gained a more concrete meaning. I am watching the movie alongside though I've finished it now (the movie). I am not the sort to compare a book to movie not really, they are to me separate beasts, I understand the need of a movie to be shortened and there is no way really to make a good cut b/c you are always taking out something, some element put there with a purpose and so someone will always get upset about it, because a very good book has nothing one would ever wish to leave off, it'd be like severing an arm or leg, its all brilliant. Movies naturally like to shock, that's why horror movies are going down the toilet its all sex and gore, pointless, excessive, gluttonous, nothing sexy about it, even vampires at least what I've seen lately are sleazy. Horror movies have lost their elegance and grace, their psychological impact, they aren't getting into your head or under your skin just raping your eyes. Movies sometimes and this is more annoying twist the endings 'round, if a happy hollywood ending is appropriate by all mean bring it on, but we should really see the whole range of endings, not everything is made perfect with a kiss. Anyway even though the movie A Clockwork Orange drops off the ending of the book (the last chapter, which I've not read anyways not yet but know more or less what happens) and forgets poor 'ol Pete and never has Georgie die at all its really a good movie. The book is really good as well thus far. I like them both as they are separate entities and watching the movie really helped clear up the language and now when I read I have the delightful accents in my head. I quite like Alex in the movie really, he's not a good-looking boy not really but then for some reason unknown to me he simply is delicious when he's all wicked lol
