Oh, my, journal, how are you? Well? Somewhat empty, you say? Well, we can fix that.
Let us see! I just read
caiata's posty, and I like her headings. I'm going to borrow them (or some similar to them).
Meri Kirisumasu!
The Christmas Haul:
1. Sid Meier's Pirates!
2. Two 20 lb weights.
3. A subscription to The New Yorker (YES.).
4. The WORST-CASE SCENARIO Daily Survival Calendar, A Day-by-Day Guide to Surviving a Year's Worth of Peril.
5. Two five pound bags of dirt. (Potting soil!)
6. A pot for some of said dirt.
Awesome.
Great time. My brother and Aleksandra came over, along with Tater and Lukie, and we spent far too long trying to open presents because everyone was preoccupied with the babies. So much food. So much sugar. AHH.
Babies (not mine)
They love the stairs, and by that I mean they love seeing if they can climb to the top without anyone watching them. Luckily, we know that if they leave the room that's exactly where they're going.
As a recap, the boys are almost to the point of walking. They crawl like crazy, can pull themselves up onto their feet, can walk with the assistance of a wall or helpful adult, and can walk/balance on their own for about four steps. So not exactly stair material yet. They're great at climbing them, I'm just not sure what would happen if they tried to come down!
Work
Work continues to rock. I love it there. Even when things are stressful, they're still great. Right before I left for Christmas vacation, I broke the nightly build of the software we're making for Urban Outfitters. (Meaning that every night, when the test servers try to automatically update, they break, and don't start up.) Oops! Luckily for me, no one on my team is actually at work until the 2nd. :D I'm going to go in to work tomorrow after I get back to Boston and fix it.
Hobbies
I'm finally getting decent at guitar. Every time I come back down to Connecticut, two things happen:
1. I get sick (relatively unrelated).
2. I learn something new from my brother, go back to Boston, and ASSIMILATE IT LIKE THE BORG.
I consider, every so often, taking lessons. I haven't gotten to that point, yet. I still feel like I'm sort of learning stuff on my own. There's a point you hit, I think, where you suddenly know enough in your brain and fingers that you can just sort of mess around for fun and actually enjoy the sound you're producing. I think I hit that point about a month ago, maybe.
Exercise
I've been consistently exercising every weekday morning for more than eight months or so now. Except when I get sick, or when I'm in a weird place (such as my parents' house). Thank god, I finally mustered a bit of will power in my life.
Japanese
We're still taking Japanese classes. They're still a lot of fun, though the class size has shrunk (just us five and maybe three or four others now). I'm SO HOPING that everyone decides to continue on. I know I want to. We gots to go to Nihon, peoples! It'll be a great trip in like, a year or two and we'll LOVE IT. :D
Night Life in Boston (But not fo' free)
I still want to go find some place to lounge, hang out, drink some fine vino, and chill. Ria, if you're reading, we gotta get on it!
The Pressure Cooker is playing at Johnny D's in Somerville tomorrow night. I'm considering going. I don't think I have anyone left who wants to go with me, though. :P For some reason you're all freaked out by the very word "reggae", even though it's a nine piece progressive roots supergroup. We're talking dancing. We're talking excitement. We're talking a three or four piece horns section. We're talking Adam D. (my almost bother-in-law!) on the guitar. We're talking one of the best live acts in Boston. I'm so not kidding.
All The News That's Fit To Print
That's the good stuff. Things are well. New Year's Eve promises to be a great night, and I'm crazily looking forward to what 2007 will bring. If I don't post before then, I hope you all enjoy the remainder of this annum, and best of luck for the next!
