Hah, yes. I'm the sort of person who will generally go "Well, that was way too easy" the moment anything starts working out, and I occasionally went "This is progressing too neatly, and there's not nearly enough "Shit, that didn't work out at all right," but reading it as more of a study than a story may have helped in that department. And the stuff that is there is so meticulously detailed and the implications so acknowledged and examined that I didn't feel the need to nitpick, much, which itself is a minor miracle.

I kinda love Sherlock because he's so very childish in so many ways, which is quite true to the show. He doesn't have a lot of emotional intelligence, and with that, not a lot of emotional confidence. And at the same time, he's got that generalized Sherlock arrogance, aloofness, and disregard for what other people are feeling (I love the bit where Lestrade has to take him aside and say "John is afraid," because I'd imagine sometimes you would have to be clear and say what should be obvious). And yeah, his distress that he's doing this wrong, because in this one little area, he can't interpret what's going on, and he does need someone to interpret it for him.
