Three more episodes into House.
I'll say this: it's not a show I would watch for the plots. Or because I enjoy following a mystery; I don't have the medical knowledge (or head for medical terms) to get what's going on half the time anyway, which at least means I don't see the twists coming. ("Oh! It's Wilson's disease! Saw it from a mile away.") I may be airing my own ignorance here, but basically, for me an episode consists of the doctors going "Medical talk." and my eyes glazing over. Fortunately, I don't think the show is targeted exclusively toward an M.D. crowd--following the medicine isn't the point of the show. (It's like how you can watch Top Gear without caring about cars, or The West Wing without being a politics buff.)
The banter? Awesome. (I'm a bg fan of banter. It's what sold me on SG-1, SGA, The West Wing and Top Gear.) The situations and expressions? Excellent. I'm still warming to the characters, but like The West Wing, it has yet to present one that I honestly don't like. Actually, a lot about the show reminds me of The West Wing--a group of strong, brilliant characters (some irascible) working together (sometimes with more cooperation than others) to solve problems of Great Import. (Also, there are lots of pedeconferences.) I want to lock Jack O'Neill, Gregory House and Toby Zeigler in a room together and see who comes crawling out alive. (Throw Rodney McKay in, too, iff'n you feel like it.)
So, while my eyes are busily glazing due to too much medicobabble, I'm kept thoroughly entertained by the ways in which the characters interact. Which is good; I'm a huge fan of character-driven stuff. And this is character-driven stuff that also manages to carry a plot I really don't understand without dragging it. So, from my grand total of 8 episodes watched, you may take that as a relatively stirring recommendation.
Okay. So, an alien disease is somehow transmitted to Washington, DC, and so Fraiser and House have to work together to prevent an outbreak from crippling the Bartlett White House. Someone, write that fic. I'll pay you. ...possibly in more fic. ...it's also probably not a good thing that I'm hearing House's voice instead of my own thinking out the words of this post. I should get that looked into.
...or possibly I should get some sleep.
