Spring Festival - Chengdu Day 5: Lazy Day & Chengdu Day 6: Sichuan Provincial Museum

May 08, 2014 20:00

Angeline needed to go and visit her uncle in the morning, and we were very tired from all the running around we had done the previous night. So it was decided that we would relax in the morning and go out to see a tomb that was in the vicinity of Angeline’s place in the afternoon around 15:00.

I did not feel very good. I didn’t have a runny nose or anything else that would make me think that I had a cold, but I wasn’t very hungry and I had a headache. I got beef noodles again from a restaurant that I was familiar with.

When Angeline and I went to go catch the bus, I was cold and miserable feeling. Our bus stop was right after a four-way intersection and our bus would come from the intersection. The traffic lights had stopped working and created a traffic jam! We waited almost an hour when it was decided that we should just give up.

I ate fruit for dinner and went to bed early.

Spring Festival - Chengdu Day 6: Sichuan Provincial Museum

Morning

Angeline had to do stuff with her family again so for the morning I slept in and relaxed, I didn’t feel better or worse. The plan was I was going to go to the museum that day and then meet Angeline at the train station so that we could buy bullet train tickets for the next day. It took me awhile but I finally dragged myself out of the room and over to the museum.

I had to take the 704 bus 4-ish stops to the metro station, than I took the matro down to the Provincial Hospital stop. I exited through Exit A and walked straight from there until the first bus stop. Where I got the 1031 bus and went two stops. I needed the stop after the Green Ram Temple called Song4xian1qiao2 (送仙桥). For lunch I ate Lanzhou Lamian (Muslim Noodles), which was behind the bus stop; where the museum was across the street.

Sichuan Provincial Museum

The museum is sort of tucked away on a one way street. It is a free museum when you show your ID. I was very confused since before I could pull out my passport they handed me what looked like a leaf-shaped flyer for the museum. That ended up being my ticket!

This museum is very nice and has a large collection of Han Dynasty wares, which made me happy. I took my time and looked at everything. They have a lot of well written pamphlets for the collections that you can take with you. In general it was a great museum and I suggest going there.

When I left the museum the sun had come out and warmed up the area so my winter jacket was a bit stifling. I found a bus stop, but there wasn’t any bus going to the Hospital metro stop. So after a while I got a taxi.

I told the Taxi driver, “Sichuansheng yiguan di tie” I should have said ‘yiyuan’ instead of ‘yiguan’. The driver repeated back ‘yaguan’ which I had assumed was Sichuanese. The taxi driver missed the turn I wanted and so I thought he was trying to avoid traffic lights decided to wait until the ticker said 10 RMB before I told him to stop. At 10 RMB I saw a sign for the hospital and waited until it turned to 15 RMB. It switched while we were idle at a light but I could see a metro station so I waited and told him to stop and he said it wasn’t good and took me to the Sichuan Gymnasium Metro Station on line 1 when I needed to be on line 2! The ride cost 18 RMB! I got on the metro and made my way back up to XiPu on line 2.

At the XiPu station I met Angeline and we bought bullet train tickets for the next morning.

Dinner

I was invited to a large family get together with Angeline’s family. But since they had spent most of the day together the dinner was just sort of a fill up and go home, thing. We had various dishes and a thick rice porridge. There was also a sweet mantou (甜馒头 tian2man2tou), that was very good. I sat with Angeline and all the family and friends that were around the same age as us. We didn’t stay very long at all.

I told Angeline about my headache and she told me it was probably a cold and she had some medicine I could use. She gave me a gold packet with two pills in it. She told me only to take one and it would make me drowsy. So I took the pill and went to sleep.
