When we created this community, just over six months ago, we were expecting a few dozen people to join. At its peak, membership here reached 1800-plus. As you can imagine, then, we're pretty pleased with how things turned out! We'd like to thank all of you for making this such a lively and interesting six months; we've had a great time, and we're ( Read more... )

I do think some discussion posts would be nice. I think it would be better not to open access to everyone - usually I'm a fan of open communities, but in this case it would make it more difficult for those people who want to go back and read the novel if the community becomes full of other posts. Also, it might easily turn into some generic sort of community, which isn't what this place is really for.

I do, however, want to see round-up posts. I suggested character themed posts, and how about some thematic posts too? There could also be a general "bits and bobs" post for anything to be talked about.

If it would help frame people's thoughts, we could create a kind of "book club" set of questions for posts, too, to help discussion progress smoothly.

I agree, especially as there are so many members. It could easily become a drain on everyone's friend lists. I do think that [mod led] discussions would be neat, though :)

I'm not swayed either way about opening it or keeping it closed, but it wouldn't be that difficult to find the posts since it's in chronological order and there wouldn't be any posts aside from the discussions/lull-posts interspersed between the entries from the beginning of the community to the end of the story, really.

If discussion posts open up, I'd like to see both discussion of the novel itself and discussion of the techniques - epistolary novels, and reading epistolary novels in real time.

I think it would be interesting to discuss in between the end of the novel and its new beginning in the next year. It would give us a chance to think about new things to think about and looks for in the text as we follow along with the story.

To advance this idea; open it up to the general public a month after the novel concludes and close it again a month or two weeks before it starts again next year. That way there will be less discussion but the people who are serious about it can still make their suggestions or observations.

I think this is an excellent idea. This way we get the best of both worlds- open discussion and being able to follow the novel easily.

I was thinking about this forum the other night. Since most of the real work of finding and organizing the text has been done, it should be a fairly easy thing to do just to post the text again next year ( ... )
