Details were still sketchy early Thursday, but initial police reports stated that the officer, shortly after 3 a.m., responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 2400 block of North Main Street.
The driver of the car reportedly tried to run the officer down, but a bystander, thinking the officer was hurt, opened fire, wounding one of the occupants, according to the news reports.
