Apparently digital music sales are way up and CD sales are way, way down. This adds up to music labels making a lot less money. The labels are trying to blame it on everything from piracy to
Steve Jobs. I am no fan of Steve Jobs, but I don't think it is his fault. I blame the product the music industry is placing on CDs. CDs cost $10-$20 depending on where you shop. However, most CDs only have a few songs that people want. Online music purchases mean you only need to purchase the songs that interest you. I will use a current release as an example. I really loved the music used in
Ghost Rider. However, when I went and looked at what was offered on the
music soundtrack CD, I saw it was nothing but the instrumental music used in the movie. So, I went to Yahoo Music and purchased the songs I wanted for 99 cents each.
If the music companies want to be more profitable, they need to produce a better product.
