I think the Pirate Party went over rather well. What had originally been designed as a fifteen person party ended up with about twice that number of people. We had rented a van/bus/limo thing that held 14 passengers...with the idea that everyone could drink if they wanted. We still had at least three people who stayed sober so that we had enough drivers. It had also been intended as a birthday bash for me.
Many thanks to

People started showing up around 1pm. I put them to work. :) We moved the last boxes and crap out of the downstairs and either into the garage or upstairs. We got the dance studio set up into a viewing room with the television in one corner and the chairs and piles of people in the other. Then we started the movie. And with as much rum as we had there, we were obligated to have a drinking game....
The rules:
Drink when you hear:
- "Captain Jack Sparrow"
- "Bootstrap"
- "parlay"
- "kraken"
- "savvy"
- "Arrrrrrrrrrrgh"
- "Davy Jones"
Drink when you see:
- A dog
- A parrot
- A monkey
- A Pirate Flag
Drink when:
- Ragetti loses his eye
- Miss Swan gets wet
- Jack loses his hat
- Jack regains his hat
- The chest of Davy Jones switches hands
Finish your drink when you hear:
Let's just say it was a good idea we had the van. I was pretty much sober by that point, but most of the crew were not.
The movies were done around 6:30, so we had some time to change into appropriate garb. It would not be a proper drunken movie viewing if costumes were not involved. So the part I had not mentioned up until now is that it was hot. The temperature outside was easily 80 and the air conditioning at my house is not equipped to handle the number of people involved, so it was not much cooler inside. Several people opted for cooler clothing or simply less clothing up until we were preparing to leave for the movie. I made sure to fill my brand new flask with rum so I could sneak it inside. Around 7:30, the bus arrived and we piled into vehicles. I had heard both good and bad things about the movie, so I went in with no real expectations. I was working on the theory that at worst, I would get what I expected, and at best, I would be pleasantly surprised. It was a suitably cheesy pirate movie. Plenty of cute and funny moments. Many pirate battles. Little regard for physics. Lots of plot points lacking. I shared most of my rum, but continued the drinking game with the part I saved for myself. I am (mostly) glad I saw it on the big screen, but I do not think I will see it on the big screen again. If you enjoyed the last two, see it on the big screen. If you liked the first one, but were so-so about the second, rent it or see a matinee.
Right about the time the end credits were rolling, I noticed that I had a nasty headache. I was seated about the second row, so the screen was huge and I had to tilt my head back to see everything. This has caused me headaches in the past, so it was no surprise that I had one now. It still annoyed me (hence the 'mostly' a few sentences back). We all piled into vehicles and came back to the house. This was about 11:30. I went upstairs and tired to nap away my headache, which turned into light sleeping instead. Again, no surprises there since my body is used to going to sleep around 10 for work. I came downstairs once, but pretty much lost track of the party after we got back to the house. So no pirate booty for my birthday...shucks. I hope people had fun.
Memorable quotes (both attributed to

"Put on your pants and give me my money!"
"Can I hide the money under the octopus maker?"
BTW - Did anyone get any good pictures?
