because i was inspired by some particular songs and others helped me write, i am including a soundtrack for "The Hand of Wrath" for anyone interested. certain songs have always had meaning related to certain fics/characters/genres when i write, but i'm going to borrow a page from Rachel Caine (author of the Morganville Vampire books) and provide a soundtrack list for your listening pleasure.
many thanks to Story, Rosa and Darkin from the RLT forum for band suggestions :)
potential SPOILERS in the soundtrack list. if you have not read the story/are in the middle of reading it, you may be spoiled so be warned! :)

Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling
-- just plain fun, and was an apt backdrop for chapter one for describing Lucas and Shannon Noyce's whirlwind flirting.
Berlin - Take My Breath Away
-- as an 80s child, this song is a particular favorite of mine. it also provided the chapter title, since Nathan and Kristin spent most of canon playing the lovers' game of trying not to acknowledge the obvious attraction between them. ;)
Epica - Deconstruct
A raging tragedy ignored will have its justice, finally
-- Epica has been a favorite band of mine for the last several years, due largely in part to the flawless vocal talent of Simone Simons. beyond the one line above, which is Len's twisted POV, there is nothing particular in this song that was directly inspirational. however, as I wrote chapter two, it created a nice backdrop for the parallels of scenes that constitute the chapter.
No Doubt - Don't Speak
-- the title and the theme for the latter half of chapter three. words spoken rashly can do damage.
Epica - Storm the Sorrow
Intertwine the lines that swim beneath the dark
Realize the pain we live in
Demonize the need we reel in
-- the title for chapter 6 (or what I think of as the "Nathan's angst" chapter), though the sections of relevant lyrics are more of a nod to Len and her mindset.
The Cruxshadows - The Infinite Tear
And now that it's broken and the last facade is burned
How do I find my balance when the Earth won't turn?
I don't remember the words that we said,
All I can focus on is the infinite death that divides us now instead.
I don't remember the words that we said,
All I can think about is the infinite death that divides us here instead.
-- I listened to this one on looping repeat while writing chapters seven and eight. this one really speaks to me of Len's state of grief and the reflection on her loss.
Drowning Pool - Love And War
Promise that you always will,
Candle lit on a window sill,
You know I'll be comin’ home.
You know I never wanted to go away,
What am I supposed to say,
When I hear the sounds of the trumpets call?
I have your pictures kept close to my heart,
Letters all but fall apart,
Each night I read them over again
-- I see this as a Marilyn/Len song of sorts. Marilyn reluctant to leave, but knowing she has to fulfill her mission. Len knowing that the woman she loves must be absent and swearing to wait faithfully, only to find herself in mourning when Marilyn loses her life.
Adrian von Ziegler - Countdown
-- This one provided good background music for the action scenes of chapter eleven.
Enigma - Traces (Light and Weight)
-- background music for end of chapter twelve, as Nathan keeps vigil over the unconscious Kristin in medbay.
Mattia Cupelli - Moment / Brunuhville - Hopes and Dreams
-- background music for Nathan and Kristin's reunion in chapter thirteen.
Leaves' Eyes - Mourning Tree
-- a look inside Kamik's head in chapter fourteen as he thinks about the loss of Kirima.
