Why is it a sad day for Singapore? O_o Personally, I'm glad to see that for this elections, people really considered who and what they were voting for, instead of just marking 'PAP' on their slips. And meh, I know why LHL said that. He doesn't think that way at all; just utterly horrified that he got such results for his first election.

I do partially agree with the anonymouse above. Also, you seem to be expecting a RAWRREVOLUTION!!!1 which, considering Singaporeans and the last elections, doesn't happen in a flash.
I think the percentages overall were very important. LHL, I think, knows that even the PAP has its problems, and it's not just that we don't like him. :)

I wasn't expecting a "RAWRREVOLUTION!!!1", because change does take time, but I sure wasn't expecting "RAWRREVOLUTION!!!1 ... oops, let's give it to the PAP anyway."
... You have not watched the press conference. If you'd read all the news reports, the general feel I get from the PAP camp is "HAH, we won! They ALL love us, they really do! Let's go for some champaigne!" And end of story.
Of course, the blame is really on all these people who want change but chicken out at the polling booth.

Aiyah, what do we know about Singaporeans? They complain, and then they don't do anything else. Any little improvement, I am happy for.
I've only gotten my news from sg_ljers, this is true. But I think that if the PAP is going to relax, then they are going to be in big trouble. And as I said before, I think they might actually be a bit worried. Singaporeans are quiet, but on the internet, on the forums, in the blogs... all the disapproval is there. They know about it.
It might be the case of an extremely vocal minority (opposition), and a silent majority (PAP). We'll see what happens.

And if people had seriously considered, it wouldn't be 82 seats out of 84.
