SAT doom

Nov 28, 2005 13:13

Housewarming for Dad's side of the family was yesterday. Three parties down, two to go. X_X

I am doomed for SAT essay. Why? because it needs historical or literary references, and unlike GP, the SAT would rather have airy fairy arguements - EXACTLY the kind of topic I axe on my GP exams. Whopee. -_-;;; And guess who gave up history in sec 2... (Not that O level history is any use, no. For God's sakes, southeast asia doesn't have THAT much of a history.)

Grand sum of "good" literary works Drac is confident she can quote during the SAT:

1) Saint Exupery - The Little Prince (Considered it an insult to my intelligence when given this in Sec 1)
2) Thornton Wilder - Our Town (Dubious honour of the only lit book she ever liked in secondary school)
3) Alan Paton - Cry the Beloved Country (Mum loves it - It bored me stiff.)
4) To Kill a Mockingbird (Great book.)
5) Susan Hill - King of the Castle (Hated its guts, but learnt to appreciate King's subversive lit skills)
6) Joseph Heller - Catch 22 (=D Long term favourite)
7) Yann Martel - The Life of Pi (Loved it and converted my Mum to it.)
8) Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist (Never really understood it, but can quote it like a stockbroker.)
9) Oscar Wilde - The Picture of Dorian Grey (Great ideas, killed by slightly off execution.)
10) George Orwell - Animal Farm (Loved it since I was 9 - am exceedingly jealous because otouto got it for his sec 2 lit book. And what did we do? CBC. UGH.)
11) George Orwell - 1984 (Loved it. Relevant, even today.)
12) Aldous Huxley - Brave New World (Loved this too. Never understood why Flau compared Shades of Grey to this though.)
13) Arundhati Roy - The God of Small Things (Good book, but too litsy for my taste. And ew, incest.)
14) Margaret Atwood - Oryx and Crake (The book that scared Kai. I love Atwood.)
15) Amy Tan - The Joy Luck Club (Amy Tan is repetitive. I am not interested in her any more.)

And that, my friends, is the grand sum of all the proper literature books Drac has read and imbibed enough of to consider them quote-worthy material for essays.

*crawls off to contemplate her doom*
