Rain = Cozy.

Jan 07, 2009 15:29

Today started out pretty crappy. We were supposed to get a huge storm of snow and sleet, but all that ended up happening was a giant long downpour of rain. However, since then it has improved a little bit, probably because I decided to put on music to speed it up and the rain makes me feel cozy. Currently Pandora is compiling a playlist of symphonic progressive metal for me, all of which I've never heard before. What is symphonic progressive metal, you ask? Well, mostly it's a bunch of really long songs that have a lot of complex instrumentation, long guitar solos, fast drum beats, and lots of strings and piano. And no screaming. I always like that part, myself.

The idea here is not to write about work, since working at a place like this brings a whole bunch of security threats along with it, so we'll just say I work for a large corporation that compensates me very well. And, apparently, lets me blog unrestricted.

Well, hmmm. I suppose a good place to start would be to recap the past...oh, well, year or so since my last post. But that would take literally forever, and I'm really going to try to stop writing really long rambling posts about nothing. So I'll do it Ollie-style:

So what happened since last time?
GRADUATED!
And then what?
GOT A JOB!
And what have you been doing since then?
WORKING!
And how's that been?
BORING!
Thanks.

The work aspect really has been boring, though. I haven't really found a true assignment yet, and so I've been doing various temp assignments here and there. I've also become a more active member of the Guitar Hero message board, edited my own page on Wikipedia (List of characters in the Warriors novel series, seriously, the page was crap before I practically rewrote half of the text), discovered a variety of new bands and artists through Pandora, learned to read out every single note on a guitar's fretboard, read just about everything in Wikipedia you could ever want to read, essentially become an ace at Text Twist, read about every single Thing that White People Like, and more.

DEAR GOD.

Well, my work life is mind-numbing, so I've made up for it by having a raving social life at home, right? Well, no. I won't even say "sorta" or "not exactly", the reality is that I truly have no life outside of work. I do, however, have a life on the weekends, which is adequate compensation. Also, Julie has been living with me for the past 5 months or so, so I've had company at home for quite a while now. And we do fun stuff sometimes, it's true. My entertainment at home comes from a few select things: my Xbox 360 (and thus, 50" plasma TV), my guitar (and thus, my tab and amp software), and Julie's cat. Oh, and Julie too.

The 360 is obvious. I bought it right after I started my job and started getting paychecks, and haven't gone back to the Wii since. Honestly, the Wii hasn't had virtually anything that interests this year, and the 360 already had a bunch of games I wanted to play. Mass Effect, Bioshock, GTA4, and Fallout 3 have all been great. Right now I'm on Tales of Vesperia, my current JRPG fix. Oh, and Guitar Hero, of course, is back again, this time with drums and vocals added. I'm pretty much an all-Expert player on guitar at this point, but I kinda suck on drums. The arms I'm ok with, but I can't for the life of me keep a beat with my foot. That kick-pedal is the end of me.

Despite what Julie says, however, I think I'm getting a little better at singing. Being alone in an apartment helps.

On weekends I do go home a lot, or at least somewhere other than here. I went to visit Jeremy in Colorado one weekend, I went to visit Jeremy at his house one weekend, I went to York a few weekends, but mostly I just go home to Jersey and hang out with my friends. I've been to more bars this summer and fall than my entire college experience combined, and yes, that is pathetic on more than one level.

As I'm typing I am constantly reminded of the mild pain in my knuckles, sustained from punching something very hard and rough last Wednesday night at my friend's New Years Party. I'm guessing that this something was a wall, but since I don't exactly remember the occasion we're going to have to guess. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a person, and I honestly do remember the entire night pretty well. Except for punching a wall. It was a fun night.

I don't really remember the point of starting this article to begin with, but it has been a nice way to pass the time. And to avoid listening to my cubicle neighbor's voice. He's very annoying.
