The Comedy of Errors

That's the name of the play that open Friday.

I'm playing Antipholus of Ephesus - it's Shakespeare, for those who don't know.

Let me tell you... Shakespeare is really difficult to memorize! The story centers around two sets of twins: Antipholus of Ephesus and Antipholus of Syracuse, and their respective servants, Dromio of Ephesus & Dromio of Syracuse.

Here's the basic premise, as listed on my theater companies website, www.southcitytheatre.com:

"One of Shakespeare's funniest plays, this "mayhem of mistaken identities" surrounds two pairs of identical twins, separated at birth, who turn up in the same town! Not only can't the masters distinguish their own servants, the townspeople can't get it right either. From the wrong one coming to dinner, to the wrong one being shaken down for money, to the wrong ones falling in love, chaos and confusion mount to a hilarious crescendo in this wild and fast-paced comedy!"

It's pretty fun. LIke I said, memorization was hell, but I finally got it. Here's one of my favorite lines:

"O Signior Balthazar,
either at flesh or fish,
A table full of welcome makes
scarce one dainty dish!"

and

"To what end did I bid thee high thee home?!" Try saying that one fast - it's fun.

Anyhow, so two weeks of performing, then I'm FREE for 2 months! I don't know what I'll do with myself. I'm so used to being in rehearsal... I've been in rehearsal and performance since October. I was supposed to take the month of January, but I got shoved into "You Can't Take It With You" two weeks prior to performance (as a lead role) so I had exactly the opposite - most of January was high-paced.

So it ought to be good for me. I'm going to start working with a personal trainer, my friend Dianne. I'm also going to begin modifying my diet and attempting to lower my calories, before I end up looking like my Dad.

Anyhow, that's it. That's what I'm up to. Next big event after this is that I'm heading to San Francisco on August 15th! Gay Wedding Expo! Yay!

Someone needs to start replying to these tirades, so I feel like someone's reading them.

"Pray god our cheer may answer my good will and your good welcome here!"
