Andrea Corr just BSOD'd Windows

... at least, I'm blaming her. I'm now safely in Linux and quite happy about it.

This morning Rat and I headed to Cardiff for a quick trip to music-selling shops. I bought myself a bunch of CDs: the latest Bon Jovi album, the latest Wiredaisies album (woah, they've gone really rocky, but it's a good album), the Amy Macdonald single (kindly suggested by chocaholic7, and the Andrea Corr single eluded to in the title - which we randomly happened to find; we don't often look at what singles are around because generally they are such a waste of money. The Amy Macdonald one I managed to get for 99p (although on the other shelves they were marked as £1.99), and it's got two songs on so that's cool. Miss Corr, on the other hand, was the full £1.99 with two versions of the same track on it. What happened to CDs with two if not three songs on (and often a fourth being a remix of the single)? I used to like buying singles. B-sides were always great surprises. Occasionally you still get some great singles with B-sides (Nerina Pallot's version of Confide in Me being a good example). But yeah, if it wasn't for the fact that Apple are evil, I'd just buy my singles from iTunes.

I'm really into music at the moment. I mean, I've always liked music. But recently I'm getting more and more into it, even though most of the chart stuff sucks. I'm so happy to have found sites like Amie Street and emusic.com where I can get cool, independent songs. However, I am finding that I'm not discovering as much as I would. Take all the music I bought today. I would have found and bought Bon Jovi at some point regardless. However, if it wasn't for chocaholic7's video post I would never have heard Amy Macdonald's song. If I hadn't heard her song we might not have found Andrea Corr's single. And it was only because of my free Coca-Cola downloads from iTunes that I found out that Wiredaisies have a new album out). These are things that I would normally rely on Terry Wogan to tell me about, but with my mp3 player accompanying me back and forth to work, and with my DAB phone unable to pick up Radio 2 in this neck of the woods, I don't get to hear his show any more. I should put it on Listen Again in the evenings I suppose. I'm getting Janet and John withdrawal symptoms anyway.

I was about this ( ) close to buying more The Who albums. Virgin had them in a four for twenty offer and I could have gotten Quadrophenia, Live at Leeds, and two others that I can't remember the names of (I'm fairly sure they weren't Who's Next or Tommy). I didn't do this mainly because, where they do them, I want to buy the two-CD special editions like (I almost bought Tommy and Live at Leeds in that format too but they weren't in the offer).

Rat's despairing at my desire to buy every single The Who album (particularly in the two-disk sets). I tried to point out that it was no different (and perhaps better) than him buying EVERY SINGLE GARBAGE CD EVER (including several copies of the same single so that he can keep some in the super special edition wrapping), but he failed to see the point. He called me sad. It's not my fault I was born about thirty decades too late! Besides, I have every Jewel album and every Juliet Turner album, and every Counting Crows album besides their greatest hits. I've probably got every Boyzone album and all but the latest Take That albums too (although some of those are on tape so they don't count!). At least I'm not obsessive about getting all the CDs too! I'm also hoping to get all the two-disk sets that they are doing for ABBA too... while I have most of their albums in one form or other already (okay, so some are my mum's vinyl which I don't technically have here but still), I want all the double disk sets. I love the fact that they have versions of songs that you wouldn't have any other way, and songs you haven't heard of before. See, it's no different from Rat wanting all Garbage's remixes!!!

I like being obsessive about music. I never thought 6 gigabytes of mp3s wouldn't be enough though. I don't know what I'm going to do soon! Maybe I shouldn't have let Rat have the 8 gig machine.

So anyway.. if you have any recommendations - let me know!

music, the who
