Thoughts on Sarah Palin

Oct 03, 2008 11:19

I read a rant recently written by some idiot feminist going off on women who hate Palin. She wrote that any woman who could say she hates Palin is anti-feminist and that it's one thing to say you hate Palin's politics but to go after Palin personally makes you sexist. Unfortunately, I was so irritated with the poster that I didn't bother to save ( Read more... )

Hah. Some people are idiots. The US election has got loooooooads of coverage here and I've (disgustingly often) seen the opinion ' if you don't vote for Palin you're sexist and anti-women' and it just makes me go BUZZAH WHUT? Because that's the most uninformed, horribly sexist statement I've ever heard.

Why don't people understand that voting for her because she's a woman and disregarding her politics is just as bad as not voting for her because she's a woman?

I think a person who would vote for gender or skin color or religion over issues and what's best for the people of the country are the worst kind of people. There are so many important issues to vote on and there is such a divide on how the candidates look at them that to vote based on anything else is petty. And honestly, what does a person's gender mean? Does her being a woman make her any more or less qualified than the men? No. What makes her unqualified for this position is her lack of experience and knowledge. Every time she opens her mouth she says something stupid. Her politics are mindblowing backwards but anyone who calls her out on that is labelled sexist. It's appalling.

I can't imagine how anyone can listen to this woman or hear what she stands for and find her an adequate candidate for the vice presidency. Even more, I can't understand how any self-respecting woman can listen to her politics and think that this woman gives half a damn about women's equality and would want her to represent women.

I agree with you 100%, based on what I know, but tbh I would also loose respect if there was female candidate whose sole focus was on female equality and never talked about anything else and therefore played off their sex to promote themselves. Female equality is an important issue, certainly, but it is one of many and I want to know the candidates' policy on each and every single issue, without giving a shit about their sex, their race, their religion etc etc. This is their JOB, and how they go about it and what they promise to achieve is the only thing that interests me. My mind boggles at any other attitude.

Exactly!

It's almost funny how she really doesn't have her own opinions on any of the issues too. She's admitted that she really doesn't pay attention and had so much of it drilled into her that you have to wonder if there's a little rip cord somewhere to pull and make her talk.
