Sometimes I think we are.
I watched "Earth report" yesterday (I know it's ancient, but it's summer on Czech TV, they'd dig up anything, and when it pours for 48 hours straight, you're doomed.) The end was very optimistic - people are changing their attitudes towards more earth-friendly consuming.
Well, let's leave aside consuming, or, rather, consumerism, being taken for granted.
I recalled a conversation I had recently with a guy I know. He will consume as much as he can, because he wants to. He doesn't care how many species go extinct, because "people are more important". He doesn't care about polution, because "it won't get crucial in HIS lifetime". Now mind you, he has a 6-years old daughter. When I asked him what about her, that she might want to be given her chance on life, he said "she'll have to make do".
Excuse me?
If a tenth of us think the way he does, we are doomed. Utterly and completely.
