Iceland

This is our last night in Reykjavik. We're at the "party at the top of the world" at the EVE fanfest right now. Ray and I both had fun even though we didn't spend a lot of time together.

We had an overnight flight from Boston Tuesday. We both went on the Golden Circle tour Wednesday and saw the geysers, two waterfalls, the old parliament area that the Vikings used. Ray did his fanfest geekery after that, while I went on more tours, shopping, and to the hotel's spa.

We upgraded our room to the executive package and we're glad we did. The executive rooms include use of the spa and executive room which provided breakfast and snacks throughout the day. We also got a room with a huge window and nice view of the city and ocean. I'll have to post pictures after we get home.

Thursday morning we tried out the hot tubs where they give everyone neck and shoulder massages. Then we got registered and I got my Sisters of Eve pass at the fanfest. After we went to lunch, I booked my Icelandic horseback riding you for Saturday morning and my "butterfly therapy" hot oil massage treatment for Saturday afternoon, then walked downtown to go shopping for a handknitted Icelandic wool sweater. I also got matching hat and mittens the day before at one of the gift shops on the Golden Circle tour. We made friends with a French Canadian guy named Jesse and the three of us had dinner at one of the fanciest, most expensive, and highly recommended restaurants in Reykjavik called the Seafood Cellar (translated). We all got the five course special and the chef threw in an extra pre-appetizer and pre-dessert, making it a seven course meal. It was very innovative, with very fancy presentation and the server explaining each dish as it was brought out, and the sauces and once even herbs frozen in liquid nitrogen poured on top at our table. Everything tasted amazing.

Friday was the Sisters of Eve tour to Thorsmork, the volcano that blew up a year ago (Eyafjallajokull), the tip of the glacier, another waterfall, and the black sand beach. I took lots of video of this trip. We rode in 4-wheel drive monster SUVs to get over the rough terrain, snow, and streams. These are not normal 4-wheel drive jeeps by any means.

So today I went horseback riding (Icelandic horses are so cute, they are about as tall as me), then back downtown to have lunch at a cafe then to get some Icelandic chocolates to take back home (they like chocolate covered licorice here. We'll see how that is.) Then back to the spa for the much needed hot tub (I am sooooo saddle sore!) and spa treatment (that was wonderful). Now we're at the EVE party, and tomorrow is the hangover party at the Blue Lagoon spa, which is a natural geothermal spa. Looking forward to that, but then we go to the airport and back to Boston from there.

This vacation went by so fast. I'll post pictures and video once we get back home.
