PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
This entry shall exist for the sole purpose of informing people how to do an lj-cut, so that all people can share in the glory of learning how to make your entry not take up half the damn friends page, especially Tina.
First: What you will basically be doing is putting a line of code before and after the section of your entry that you want under the lj-cut. I can't actually write this code out exactly the way it's supposed to be, however, or else LJ will put the code into action automatically.
The first character in each line of code is going to be <. The last character is going to be >. So your code will basically be encased inside < and >. When I write out the actual code below, however, I am going to substitute parentheses, ( ), so that LJ won't simply do an lj-cut and you can see what the hell I'm doing.
The line of code that goes at the beginning of your long, rambling passage is this:
(lj-cut text="whatever you want the hyperlink to say")
Remember, replace the ( ) with < >.
As for "whatever you want the hyperlink to say"... usually an lj-cut is contained inside a hyperlink. I'm assuming you know what a hyperlink is. Whatever you write inside the "quotation marks" is what the hyperlink will say. Thus, if in the above code I wrote "I hate technology", then the cut would end up being contained inside the hyperlink
