"Harry!"
Jumping up from putting the groceries away, Harry banged his head on the open cupboard door and swore profusely. "What?"
"Lucille is missing!"
Draco sounded panicked, so - still rubbing his aching head - Harry wandered into the living room. "Lucy, come here girl."
Draco was distraught enough that he didn't chastise Harry for not referring to their Chihuahua by her full name. Harry bent down, peering under the furniture and clicking his tongue softly. She normally came running whenever they got home.
Straightening up, Harry saw the French doors were open slightly. Draco, did you open the doors?"
"Oh no!"
~~~~~~
Lucy was still a puppy; too excitable and curious to be outside on her own. Harry couldn't help but fear the worst as he and Draco dashed through the dining room and out into the backyard. They had a large backyard, to give them privacy, and it took almost forty-five minutes to search it properly.
Harry had nearly given up hope when he heard a dejected yap coming from the very end of the garden. "Lucy?"
"Have you found her?"
"Shush!" Harry listened, and heard the bark again. Happiness flooded through him as he dashed down the garden. "Down here!"
~~~~~~
Lucy had got out of their garden, and somehow managed to get herself stuck on one of the little islands in the pond that dominated the field behind their property. She had been wet and bedraggled, and of course Harry had been sent in to fetch her.
But now she had been washed and dried, she was sat happily on Draco's lap, being terribly fussed over as Harry cooked dinner.
"How did she get out, unless someone left the doors open."
Harry had left them open, but he wasn't about to admit that. "I don't know; she must be magic!"
