"Maybe there's a restaurant we can get take-out from," said Kendra. "I'm beat, too. We can just grab some fast food and bring it back here to eat or something if that sounds good to you."
Sure enough, there was a Noodle Shack just down the street. Kendra led the way there, skipping with energy renewed by the proximity of food, bed, and bath. She wasn't a huge fan of noodles, but she'd eat anything right about now. Humming, skipping, Kendra was wrapped up inside her mind and therefore not paying attention when she reached the door to the noodle joint

"I'm really sorry," Blake said sincerely. "You'll have to forgive us, see we were in a hurry from starving so long and we're not exactly the most elegant sort."
The other trainer nodded, her Vulpix sniffing around, disinterestedly.
"Sorry again," he said, offering his hand.
"No need to worry," she said, cautiously accepting the handshake, just barely avoiding eye contact, her gaze shifting from one side of his face to the other. "I was just on my way to grab something to eat, myself. Would you mind if I joined you?"
"We'd be happy to have you. Least we can do, right Kendra?"
"Right!" Kendra agreed cheerfully, though she was a little annoyed that the girl had snubbed her offered hand and taken Blake's instead. Oh well. She was probably just still a little shaken up from falling over. In any case, social intricacies didn't matter when there was food to be had! Kendra looped her arm around Blake's and hauled him into the restaurant, leaving the other girl to follow.
"Whatever's most filling, please. Three, if you'd be so kind," Blake said to the Noodle Man, wondering how the man's awkward hat never seemed to topple, no matter how vigorously he prepared the noodles.
"My name is Blake," the Pokemon trainer said, introducing himself. "This is my friend, Kendra. What's your name?"
"Nice to meet you," Kendra said half-heartedly, her attention on the Noodle Man who was taking forever to prepare their food. Granted, Blake had just made the order seconds ago, but still! Kendra belatedly realized that she'd probably seemed rude and decided to make up for it by taking an interest in the girl who would be joining them for noodles.
"So, you a Pokemon trainer, Sophie?" Kendra asked, glancing down at the Vulpix that stood loyally at the other girl's feet.
Sophie shook her head. "No, I'm a student. A Pokemon researcher. I'm studying wild Pokemon at the moment for my thesis."
"Another science type," Kendra said. "I could never get the hang of that stuff myself, but Blake here's a regular nerd!"
"Wild research is definitely the hardest," noted Blake. "Unpredectible elements like nothing else. What I'd give for a nice lab to sit down and study in. That's why we super-nerds get the mad props that we do, right?"
"Right," she said, a bit confused. "But... If he's doing field research and you're not the science type... Why are you along with him? Are you two... seeing each other?"
Sophie's simple question threw Kendra for a loop, and before she could even wonder why, she was waving a hand dismissively and saying, "Me and Blake? Nah, no way. No, we're just friends. Just working together. On Pokemon stuff. You know, Pokedex research. 'Cause they needed trainers. Well, I wasn't a trainer until this, but now I am. Pretty good opportunity, you see. And, hey, noodles are up!" Kendra busied herself digging into her pocket for money to pay for the carton of noodles that the Noodle Man had just put on the counter.

Really any food would do. If there was an artichoke heart store any closer than the noodle shop, he'd have opted for that.

"Sophie," she said simply.
Blake smiled politely.
