Amy and Alex's Pokemon Adventure pt. II

Nov 15, 2007 20:41

When we last left our heroes, they were escaping from a crazed Butterfree in the Viridian Forest...Kendra needed no second telling. She darted off, making rocket ship whooshing noises under her breath, pounding down the overgrown forest path. So completely concentrated on running was she that she didn't even remember to stop until the bright ( Read more... )

Blake was hunched over, panting heavily, his arm against another tree, keeping him stable as he struggled to breathe. It's not that he was particularly out of shape. To the contrary, he believed that he built a bit of muscle working in the lab. However, he didn't do much running in the lab. At all.

"I think we... Lost it..."

"Well, I sure hope so," Kendra said. She wiped her forehead on her sleeve. "Ew. I'm all sweaty. I cannot wait to get to a Pokemon center. Olive needs healing, and I need a shower." She pulled a water bottle from her pack and took a huge swig. "Man... Let's take a breather and then get back on the road. We shouldn't be far from Pewter City now."

A breather sounded great. Granted, Blake wouldn't be doing much breathing with his lips pressed to his water-bottle. He poured the life-giving liquid down his throat, coming up for air when necessary, repeating as necessary until he ran out of water. His canteen ran out. He'd been sipping on it on and off, and guzzled the remainder.

"All out," he said. "Ah, well. We can restock in the Pokecenter."

Their impromptu break over, the two continued down the road. Right before the fatigue started to set in again, they stumbled across Pewter. They made for the Pokecenter as quickly as they could.

Trainers milled about, talking about this, that and the other. Nurse Joy stood behind the counter, and various assistants moved around, doing what they could.

"I'm going to refill the canteen and put some clothes through the wash," Blake said.

"I'm taking Olive to be healed, and then I'm booking a room and taking a shower," Kendra said in reply. She checked her Poketch. "Meet up in about three hours? It'll be five o'clock then. We can meet here in the lobby and see about exploring the town." And grabbing some food. Fleeing for your life left you pretty hungry.

Blake felt insensitive. He'd forgotten about poor Sai. He was new to training, so he was likely to make mistakes here and there, but he really didn't mean to be so cruel to his Psyduck.

"Five sounds fine. I should probably see about Sai getting healed, too... See you in three, then." He went to find a nursing assistant to talk about getting Sai healed. After leaving Sai in the care of the people of the Pokemon Center, Blake went to the basement to find the laundry machines.

All of the essential things were nice and lined up. Grabbing a few Pokedollars worth of coins, he went to work putting their clothes through the wash, being careful to separate dark clothes from light clothes. After the machines were in full gear, he went about refilling canteens.

It took Kendra only a few minutes to get Olive into the hands of one of the Pokemon healers. Assured that the little Oddish would be well taken care of, Kendra then found the administrator who was in charge of coordinating rooms for trainers. The man looked through his ledger, make a few notes, and handed Kendra a key.

"You'll be staying in room 16," the administrator said. He seemed ready to say more, but one of the nurses ran over to him and breathlessly told him about a plumbing problem. With that, the administrator took off.

Kendra shrugged. She had the room key, anyway. When she found room 16, she almost mistook it for a closet. However, it had a lock and it was private, so that was all that mattered. A sign in the corridor pointed the way to the bathroom, so Kendra pulled out what she needed for a shower and locked the rest of the belongings in the room.

One relaxing hour later, she returned, set the alarm on her Poketch for 4:45, and then collapsed on the bed for a nap.

Blake had just started to nod off when the buzzer on the machine went off. Cloth-folding time. In a semi-stupor, Blake made as much haste in getting everything back in order as he could.

He checked his watch. Quarter after four. He could freshen up in the shower and be back down and golden before five. He gathered everything up and went to find the showers.

Fifteen minutes earlier than he expected, he was done. He went down to the lobby and sat. Five minutes into his sitting, he decided that no one would hold it against him if he sat with his eyes closed. He was out cold, but he was still sitting upright as the final minutes ticked away.

Five minutes after five, Kendra skidded into the lobby. She should have known that fifteen minutes wasn't enough time. Oh well. She was only five minutes late, after all.

Kendra checked in at the desk and retrieved Olive's Pokeball from the smiling nurse. Then she glanced around the lobby of the Pokemon center, looking for Blake. There he was, sitting on one of the couches. Flicking a damp hank of hair out of her face, she walked over.

"Hey, Blake." There was no response. Kendra then noticed that his eyes were closed. Blake was asleep. "Blake." Still nothing. Kendra smirked. She pulled out her Pokedex and called up the entry on Butterfrees. Holding the device so that it's speaker was next to Blake's ear, she played the Butterfree sound file.

Blake yelped and jumped up in response to the shriek, accidentally knocking Kendra to the ground. He curled his fingers in, drawing his hands into fists, and searched for the demonic bug.

Left. Nothing but trainers.
Right. Nothing but trainers.
Above, ceiling and light fixtures.
Below... Kendra, holding her Pokedex, which displayed an image of a happy Butterfree.

"I'm... Sorry. I didn't mean to... Here, let me help you up." He grabbed Kendra's arm and hoisted her to her feet. "Sorry about all that. That thing put me a little on edge. Really really sorry."

Kendra rubbed her back where she had landed. "You know, if I didn't actually deserve that, I might have been a little angry." She snickered. "Still, it was worth it. That was hysterical. Anyway, did you eat yet? If not, we should go look around the city and find some place to eat."

"No," Blake's stomach seemed to say. "He hasn't had anything to eat. He would very much like to find some food somewhere. Any food sounds nice."

But all that came out was a grumble. "Excuse me," Blake said. "Food sounds great."

"All right," Kendra said. "Let's go!" She led the way out of the Pokemon Center.

Leaving the building, there wasn't much to see. To the south was where they had entered town earlier that day, and there were only homes to the west. To the east was a park, but past that Kendra saw a neon sign advertising a diner. A glance north revealed the Pokemart and the gym, but Kendra couldn't care less about anything except eating at the moment.

Turning to Blake, she asked, "That diner look okay to you? Certainly seems to be the closest place."
