(someone banging on about frat regs. They themselves write Jack/Janet! HUH?)

I absolutely hate when this happens... It makes me want to throw things out windows when people turn fanfiction or critique of fanfiction into a soap box when it isn't really appropriate to begin with... If you're trying to make some big, earth-shattering point with your story and the point is really offensive, then I can understand someone speaking up, but in general that's never the case with anyone's writing--especially in fanfiction--and people need to lay off.

In general, I find that people who make big arguments against something, unless you have completely murdered characters (either due to ignorance or in some cases the Soapbox Complex, as I like to call it) people need to be much more careful about what they prattle on about...

...hypocrisy makes my skin crawl!

Also, person who was silly enough to do that probably somehow conveniently writes of Janet's military status due to the fact that she's a white coat mostly? Yay for illogical going down with the ship arguments...

I read their profile and a couple of their stories (which made my eyes bleed they were so badly written) and they were very clearly anti-S/J in all shapes and forms.

I sent them a snarky message back, and also asked them why they even read the fic in the first place when they clearly don't like the pairing? I politely hinted that they should just leave read the ships they like and ignore everything else.

The one thing that bugged me about the whole exchange was that they'd left a comment to my story, but I couldn't reply! It was basically "do your research, Sam and Jack can't be in a relationship, so your story sucks". There was no way that I could reply and defend myself because the replies go as PM's! It bugged me that this person had left such a review and I couldn't reply in a way that other people could see that I had done my research (or rather, my beta had, *g*) and I'd read the frat regs in detail. It's quite clear in that particular fic that both chracters know it's wrong and the risk they are taking.

And also, Jack can't have a relationship with Janet either! Or even Daniel. Following the frat regs to the letter means they shouldn't even be as close as the canon shows them to be, if it affects the way the team works in a negative way.

*deep breath*

:)
