Gobsmacked...
I've just been sent a text message joke that I think is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life.
It's not funny by any stretch of the imagination. It's not a witty pun, it's not one of those that are bad taste, and you know you shouldn't laugh at, but do a little bit anyway.
It's just...wrong.
And came from someone I consider a friend. Someone who I considered my best friend for years. I'm usually able to just ignore and delete her blatent racism and homophobia (which seems to have increased hugely over the past couple of years), but this takes the cake. I'm not going to post it here, but the basic gist of it is "I'm glad so many people in Haiti have died, because they are all black". Except the word wasn't "black".
I'm trying to compose a calm, rational response to tell her this is Not OK and to please stop sending me stuff like that. I don't know why she thinks I'd find it funny.
Oh, and she followed it up with an invite to her birthday party next week. How nice...
