It really is a cool picture!

A friend of mine is just back home. It took her 26 hours to fly from Heathrow to Germany. She sat four hours in the parking plane until it took off. Apparently they hadn't bulked up the de-icer. Instead of going to Frankfurt she then had to go to Vienna. She arrived late in the night and got to sleep in a very nice hotel room (for free). Next day on to Germany, with yet another landing and sleeping overnight since there was no direct flight.

She also showed us pictures she had made while sitting in the plane waiting - but there is barely an inch of snow at the airport.

When I was a child, I remember the catastrophic winter 1978/79. Just at the turn to the new year it hit. They were not able to mine the brown coal anymore, and therefore the power went out and the ovens could not be heated. We had been on vacation and were sent home. I don't remember much of it, but I have seen pictures of trains stuck in walls of snow and telegraph poles barely sticking out at the top.

BTW, here is a bigger version of your picture:

26 hours?? Yikes!

An inch of snow at Heathrow? That's pretty much all it takes. Lol. The Southerners can't cope with cold weather. Lol.

Yeah, figured ;) She said in Vienna there was much more of it and still everything ran smoothly.

I'm just sorry for another friend who wants/wanted to fly to Cardiff, not sure, tomorrow or the following day, and now her flight's cancelled and with the other one offered she has no idea how to go from Bristol to Cardiff that late in the night, when no train is going. She thinks of not going at all.

She wanted to see John Barrowman in this year's panto. That is sad if you look forward to something like that and then have no way to go there and the tickets go wasted.

Oh that sucks. :( Unfortunately public transport here is bad at the best of times. At the moment she'd have no hope. :(
