...hanging around birds and RAF bases... Lol.
More piccies.
Titchwell Marshes, on the Norfolkshire coast, just a few miles away from Hunstanton. Didn't see as much there as we thought we would. We did see a Little Egret, which I've never seen before, so that was cool, and also lots of Brent Geese that are apparently fairly new winter residents to the area. They come from Siberia and stay until the weather gets warmer. It's odd to think of England as "south for the winter". Lol.
There were hundreds of Lapwings!
The beach at Titchwell. again. not much around except lots of Brent Geese and a few Oystercatchers. :) I love Oystercatchers. The sound they make takes me right back to Scotland. :)
Hee, this little guy was flapping around us when we got to the beach and ended up sat about two feet away from us. I think he thought we were going to feed him!
Today we went to RAF Conningsby to see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I was prepared to be bored out of my skull, but it was actually quite interesting. Plus, the guide kept mentioning some guy called "Mitchell" and the Spitfires and I kept thinking of Ben Browder's fanfic thing he did after Continuum! *g*
Mk 2 Spitfire and a Dakota in the background:
Hurricane:
Mk 19 (?) Spitfire. Piloted last by a Canadian. Aparently the engines were so heavy that they used to have someone sit on the tail while they were on the ground to keep the plane balanced. One day, the Canadian guy was taxying around an airfield with a woman on the back. Something went wrong with their communication and he somehow took off with her still on the tail, clinging on for dear life! When they got safely to the ground, they were both "severely reprimanded" and she got charged for losing her gloves! Lol!
The Lanc! :D Only one of two still flying in the world and the only one flying in the UK. Although there is a rumour of one that has been restored not far away and is apparently airworthy, but the paperwork is keeping it on the ground since it's not owned by the MOD, but by two farmers!
A Chipmunk (for flight training):
