Hey everyone. I'm in England right now, waiting for the next week to pass by so I can finally go home. The Egypt part was fun but the two weeks in England/Scotland seem to be dragging on...
The flight from Vancouver to London was about 9 hours. I would have gotten some sleep on the bus ride between the Gatwick and Heathrow airports but the driver was a complete nutter and was continuously yelling about England and the World Cup. Then there was a one hour flight to Zurich and a three hour flight to Cairo. My dad almost didn't make it through Passport Control. They let the rest of my family through and when they looked at my dad's passport they told him to go into this room off to the side. Luckily, there was a representative from the tour company there and he managed to get my dad out of there. Probably trying to get their revenge for the Americans ''random'' security checks.
One thing I noticed right away was that almost all of the police carried AKs. Another thing was that Egyptian driving is frickin crazy. Nobody obeys any of the traffic laws, and in return, the police don't enforce them at all. To them, the lines on the road are just decoration. At one point, there were about 6 lines of cars fitted into 3 road lanes.
Anyways, I saw a bunch of temples, the pyramids and the sphinx which was actually smaller than I thought it would be. The reason it's missing half the face is because Napolean decided to test his artillery accuracy on it.
Vendors are bloody persistent. A couple things you should remember if you ever go there:
1. Don't go into their stores. Once you step in there, you are in their territory. They will corner you and will not let you leave easily. And once you do, they will grab your arm and pull you back in. One of them managed to get my brother into his store and was trying to make him try on clothes. My mom went in there to try to get him out and the guy told her ''Go away Lady.'' My mom looked like she was ready to smack him upside the head, but she grabbed my brother and pulled him out of there.
2. Don't shake their hand or tell them your name. You tell them your name, they will target you if you walk by again. If you shake their hand, they will either pull you into their store or put something in your hand and try to make you buy it.
Those bastards are friggin persistent. Also, everytime I told them I was from Canada, they always say ''Ah! Canada Dry! Hahahah!'' But when you go to a store and ask for one, they don't even know what it is. Idiots...
Now after a week in England/Scotland, I want to kill them all... Only interesting things I've done is go to the Edinburgh Dungeon horror thingy and also see Pirates of the Carribean 2 and Superman Returns. Everything else is visiting friends and relatives of my parents. One of them is a police officer who has the Bad Boys song as a ringtone, which brought a few laughs from us when the phone started ringing in the middle of the conversation.
Time to go now. I should be flying out to Vancouver on Saturday. I miss everyone and can't wait to see everyone again. See you soon!
PS: We heard about what happened to Hanna and Trina a few days later. Sean grew up with both of them. I didn't really know Trina, but I was in CPTV for one semester with Hanna.
