Remember when I said I wouldn't be buying anything this month, apart from the odd bargain book or film ticket? Seems I lied: Tonight, I went to see a production of Samuel Beckett short plays directed by Peter Brook. Specifically, Rough for Theatre I, Rockaby, Act Without Words II, Neither and Come and Go. Bloody expensive and a mostly unreceptive novice audience, but otherwise excellent. This was the first time I got to see a Beckett performance, other than through
videos and the like, mainly through the brilliant resource that is
UbuWeb.
Re: The new Saul Williams' album: This CD kills fascists.
Seriousness aside, Reznor's almost proto-industrial production effortlessly complements Williams' diverse performance without overshadowing him. It's a bit of a disservice to call this hip hop. It's quite a different, raw beast, and well worth checking out, no matter where your tastes lie.
I think I'll be buying this one.
