Well? Haven't you been wondering?
Well I'm at the computer at
Stone Mountain, where I work in the Plantation Farmyard (I take care of goats & sheep & pigs! It's like zookeeping, only with less exotic animals :)
I usually wear thick cotton pants & long sleeved shirts (and suspenders - whoopee!), but occasionally I am asked to work as an interpreter in the Plantation, in which case I get to wear a huge hoop skirt (now I see the appeal of royalty at the Ren Fest -- except for when you have to sit down!). Often I will bring some knitting, my recorders, and a set of Graces to play with while I'm working in the Plantation. And I'll try to put on a Southern accent, but my British is more reliable & more insistent.
I work at Stone Mountain 2-3 days a week, and it's my only outlet for the Internets, so if I seem scarce -- well, I am. No, I refuse to pay for internets at home (at least until I can convince Sarah to share the financial burden ;)
One day a week, I work as kennel help at the Lithonia Animal Hospital, with a lovely old man named Dr. Wright. I'm there on Thursdays, which are Surgery Days, so as soon as I get all my dogs fed, walked, & cleaned-up-after, I usually go into the operating room and watch such things as spays, neuters, and splint-installments (i.e., a metal bar screwed onto the halves of a broken bone to aid in the healing process). I can now tell you the difference between a needle rack and a needle holder, and for skin sutures, it's the coral coloured thread (4.0 guage).
I am an active member of the
Atlanta Murder Mystery Players, thanks to Val of
Ren Fest fame, which means that as often as she can book us, I'll play witness/suspect/victim to a murder, or "Spy-Kid" type team-building enabler. Wish we had more bookings, but alas, who wants a play about politics during an election year? :) Fortunately, Christmas is coming up soon.
Lastly, in the "Paying Gigs" (or shall I say "Potential Paying Gigs") category, is the up-and-coming brand-spanking-new omg-we-are-gonna-ROCK-everyone's-socks-off group, designed by Kristi, Lina, and Myself: The Mad Magical Madrigals! This is the only thing that has kept Ren Fest Withdrawl at bay -- our new group. Kristi's our playwright, I'm the composer, and Lina's learning magic tricks daily to give us plenty of material when we hit the streets of the
Carolina Ren Fest! From costumes to stories to songs to tricks, it's all coming together, and we will be wonderful. Just sayin. :)
I also do a number of unpaid activities -- I'll be in the
Play of Herod in December; I hope to sing with St. Bart's Compline service, although with the Carolina Ren Fest, I won't be able to do it very often; I'm a member of
Mr. Friskett, a delightful improv group composed mostly of Rennies; and I volunteer at the
Shakespeare Tavern.
I stay pretty busy.
Just thought you all ought to know,
Much love,
--Cat :)
