warmsound who speaks my mind so perfectly I didn't feel the need to rewrite it about John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate.
Fuck you, and fuck any woman who actually buys into this stunt.
It's not empowering to pick a woman specifically because she is a woman. That IS NOT supporting feminism. That IS NOT supporting equality. That is TOKENISM.
I want a woman to end up in office as President or VP because she is genuinely considered as an individual to have characteristics she'll bring to the table that will make her a strong and effective leader. I don't want ANY woman. The notion of 'ANY woman!' is not what any feminist should be supporting. We are not interchangeable. This is not the Vaginas On Rotation parade.
I want a woman to be considered for Pres. or VP because she is a strong individual who has been considered just as seriously as any other candidates have been for the job. Picking her because she's a woman is incredibly demeaning because it reduces her to her gender.
Feminism is not about encouraging the idea that women should get opportunities specifically because they are female. Being female is not why women are important - it's why we're not unimportant. Jesus.
Also really don't want to sway anyone to vote one way or another, to each his/her own, but when I read this I just had to go WTF?!
In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”
In fact, she said she didn’t know what the vice president does.
Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain's ticket mate.
Palin replied: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”
Right now I can't decide if McCain is a genius or an idiot with this VP pick but I think he just clenched this election for Obama starting today.
