...and more music

Between Falcon Ridge and the Lowell Summer Music festival, I'm still attending music events.

Falcon Ridge is an annual pilgrimage for me. We had rain all day on Friday, so it was too wet to set up the tent in handicapped camping. I slept in the car all nights; not too bad, actually, as long as I could scrape the mud from the tires of the chair before loading it into the front seat with me.

Saturday night, a massive storm front sent me fleeing back to the car at about 9:30. The security guy at main entrance showed me the weather map on his phone, so I fell asleep on the front seat, even though the storm miraculously split around the site; we only received sprinkles, so main stage performances continued on.

We had a great lineup: Vance Gilbert(loved the new song about the dragonfly); Jimmy LaFave, Cheryl Wheeler, John Gorka, Dala, the Nields, and so many others. One regret: Tracy Grammer did her by now usual set of Dave Carter songs and I wish she could do more of her own and newer material. I know that Dave Carter is revered at FRFF, but Tracy should be able to showcase more of her own material now.

I did sing at a few of the song circles over the weekend, and that was fun.

I had wanted to see the Indigo Girls at Lowell this year, but had written down the wrong date. I drove up on Saturday (they played Friday to a sell-out crowd), and waited for someone with extra tickets to come through the gate (Saturday was also sold out). I ened up getting in free for Marc Cohn (the gentleman with the extra ticket wouldn't accept my $$$) Feeling guilty, I made my way to the festival table, and donated the price of the ticket to their cashbox. I had free crackers and hummous from one of the booths, settled in with a guacamole wrap aand a cup of herbal tea, and had a wonderful time listening to great music. Such a marvelous night!
