Summary: The latest alien world is really messing with Cameron's head.
It’s nowhere near his first trip through the Gate, but this has to be the most alien alien world Cameron Mitchell has ever seen. Most planets he’s seen resemble Earth in at least the basic ways - green plants and a blue or red or orange sky, something that can be seen at home.
But this, this is crazy. The instant he steps out of the Gate, he’s assaulted by bright purple plant life. Flowers, leaves and vines all a violent shade of violet. And then there’s the sky. Even though it’s nearly nightfall, it has this strange glow, neon green near the horizons and darkening toward the middle. SG-1 hasn’t been here long, but it’s already starting to make him dizzy.
He doesn’t realize he’s wavering on his feet until there’s a steadying hand on his back and a voice in his ear. “Easy there. What’s wrong?”
“It’s this friggin’ place,” Cameron complains, leaning into Daniel’s hand and scrubbing a hand across his face. “’s makin’ me dizzy. I feel like I’m Alice down the rabbit hole and I’m hallucinating the whole thing.”
“Come here.”
Cameron lets Daniel lead him over to a purple log (purple. log.) and sit him down. “Now close your eyes and put your head between your knees.”
“What?”
“Trust me, it’ll help.”
Cameron does as he says, sighing at the comfort of Daniel’s hand warm on the back of his neck. “Now, deep breaths. In, and out.”
Cameron concentrates on Daniel’s voice, breathing deeply and picturing green trees and a blue sky. Daniel rubs his neck, making Cam groan softly.
After a few minutes, rustling leaves a ways off signal the approach of the rest of the team. Cameron sits up.
“Better?” Daniel asks.
Cameron opens his eyes - and the outrageous surroundings rush in at him once more. He groans again, and not in pleasure this time.
Daniel gives him a sympathetic little smile. “Don’t worry. As soon as we find that ZPM, we’ll be out of here.”
They have time for a quick kiss before the rest of the team catches up.
