Everyone on Earth is awake. Some places it's dark; on the other side of the world it's broad daylight. It doesn't matter. Everyone can see the asteroid as it hurtles through space, glinting in the sunlight as it approaches the atmosphere. They've all known it was coming for days now. There was nothing to do to stop it. They can only watch and wait for the collision.
