As always, this is amazing. The first line packs so much power and really sets the scene, and the entire piece is incredibly corporeal. My favorite line is definitely: the jukebox playing tinny jazz and Tifa scrubbing glasses with a lost look in her eyes, it hadn't seemed like much of a promise...I just love this portrait of Tifa. It's so perfect, and again, the tangible quality of the entire scene (all of them) not only really puts the reader right into this world, but also really captures that original gritty, dark depiction of Midgar. I adore Barret's part too...you touch on parts of his character that are obvious, but yet no one ever writes about. So good.

Thank you! I really love the original dark, gritty quality of Midgar, as you put it, so I'm glad I was able to capture it here. Midgar was probably my favorite part of the game, and I was always sad we didn't get to return there for long and explore. That city just has so much atmosphere... And Barret is, I think, probably one of the more overlooked and underrated characters. I'd love to see more with him and the original AVALANCHE in general.
