I was reading Almosthonest's entry on servicing his car and became more worried still about getting the MOT done on mine this month. Any advice, anyone ( Read more... )

Well, don't take my example as too relevant - I run my car into the ground, like putting about 30,000 miles on it a year, which is insane. But one very simple thing to do if you can, is never service and MOT at the same time. Garages love you to service and MOT, because they offer to fix things in the service to "help" with the MOT. If you service first, the garage has no leverage to scare up things with regards to an MOT. Then get the MOT, and they'll see a cleanly serviced car, so won't bother scare things up there too.

It's worth noting that my car passed an MOT two months ago, with the above oil leak and all.

Fill up your washer fluid before you go; that otherwise gets topped off for you at around £7.

What he said. Also, make sure you take everything out of the car before it goes in for MOT, just to be on the safe side, otherwise things get lost.

And given how virulent the cough appears to be, apologies if it was mine from Essex - yes, the bastard thing stuck with me for the best part of month, and I'm usually pretty good with that sort of illness.

I can recommend a garage in Timsbury as being trust worthy, and not like to take the piss if you like.

Also though I doubt you have time, depending on the model of car a lot of servicing can be done very cheaply by yourself.

Timsbury Service Station I think. Would need to double check the name with my Dad, but it's the only one in the centre of the village.

I might have managed to finish it, but don't feel that you have too. I love what you write but don't force it.
